    using zc_install

    am i missing something here? i'm trying to install zencart on a network solutions unix host. i've used zencart before (on a different host) and have never had problems installing or upgrading. i've downloaded the latest zipfile, uploaded, renamed files, changed permissions, and i'm getting a 500 internal server error every time.

    after a call to tech support they're telling me i'm trying to "install it to our server", i think they mean it's trying to install into the entire system, not just my htdocs folder (feel free to interperet it another way). another guy assured me that many network solutions customers run zencart, and i shouldn't have any problems, so if there are any other network solutions customers who have any hints, or if i'm blatantly screwing up, please help!

    ps. i've followed the directions to the point, and have re-downloaded the zipfile, re-uploaded and started over twice now.

    Make sure you followed instructions from the downloaded package's docs folder of Zen Cart (+ Wiki and FAQs documentation from this site).

    Then, to help you further, it would be a great solution to post your URL pointing to your techsupp.php file.

    Note: This file can already be found on your zc_install's root folder.

    1. If you're using v1.3.0 and not v1.3.0.1, please grab the upgrade.

    2. Your server may not like the /zc_install/.htaccess file .... try renaming it to htaccess_off

    i tried using both of the version that are available from sourforge, and both produce the same result.

    The requested URL /~906883.927694//cgi-bin/php.dat/zc_install/techsupp.php was not found on this server.
    1. What folder did you upload the files to on your server?
    2. Who is your host?

    It would seem your server is trying to run Zen Cart as a CGI application, but it's not.

    from the first post;

    network solutions unix host

    shop.wearonearth.com points to /htdocs/zencart/

    all zencart files are located in /htdocs/zencart/.

    You might want to search for Network Solutions- I seem to recall there are issues trying to install on their servers.

    Re: using zc_install

    i searched through all the docs, and it seems to be related to them having php set up as CGI instead of as an apache module. i'm not sure if this is something they will change or not, but i know there are people on this very forum with the same host using zencart, so i'm not sure howcome i'm not able to install it.

    Ditto. I suppose identifying some of those persons and asking them to share some of their experience in this thread might help.
    They might be on a different NS server than you are... perhaps even a different hosting plan, etc.

    You uploaded your files to the server ... what folder did you upload into? Did they go into public_html or htdocs or httpdocs etc?

    If you cannot find either folder names - such as: htdocs or public_html, (which I would really doubt), look for ' www ' folder. I did encountered a server, once, who did had the htdocs folder and www folder but ' not ' the public_html folder for an unknown reason.

    That provider must of had related the www folder to the htdocs folder rather than linking it up from public_html to www (still, for an unknown reason).
