Customer welcome gift certificates

I am using the latest version of zencart. When a customer signs upp on the site, the are sent an e-mail automatically that says they get a 5 dollar gift certificate as well as free shipping. The e-mail does not give specifics on how the redeem the signup gift certificate.
How is this supposed to work.

You have Gift Certificates and Discount Coupons ...

A Gift Certificate is Cash ... and this never expires ... and has no feature for Free Shipping other than your setup as to whether a Gift Certificate is allowed to be used for Shipping but this is not on the Gift Certificate itself ...

A Discount Coupon is for a Percentage or a given Amount Off or Free Shipping ...

NOTE: Discount Coupons are not able to be both a Percentage/Amount Off *and* Free Shipping ... at this time ...

The description on the email for either of these can be customized to explain how to use them better ...

Check to see if you are really using a Gift Certificate ... or if you are using a Discount Coupon ... or perhaps both ...

And if a Discount Coupon ... check that it is not set for both an amount and free shipping ...
