    Default New Customer, Returning Customer Discounts

    I'm new to setting up ZenCart. Please bear with me. The site is http://old-pine-footwear.com/store/

    My client wants to offer a 10% discount to all new customers (all are new to the ZenCart). Also, he wants to apply the same discount to returning customers. But he wants to separate out the two.

    I set up a sale maker to apply a "Grand Opening" 10% discount to all products over $50 ... that's a stopgap, though. It crosses out the retail price on the page and we only want the discount to apply on checkout - *not* show up on the product listing. (His distributorship rules preclude offering blanket discounts.) Is what we want even possible?

    To avoid the crossed out price, I changed so that the customer has to be logged in to see prices. That's not really what we want, either. It says "Price Unavailable" - where do I find the page to change the wording to "Log in to view prices"?

    Can we automatically generate a gift coupon code for returning customers? It seems that would solve the existing/returning customers issue.

    Pre-ZenCart on the static site http://old-pine-footwear.com/ , he has offered the new customer discount and then just given the discount to returning customers. However, all orders from the static site are handled by hand with phone confirmation for payment information. He wants to keep the same policy with the ZenCart.

    If I understand what you want correctly:

    you want customers , new and returning to receive a 10% discount on purchases with out it being shown in the product price.

    Try setting up an attribute name and linking it to an attribute value. These are both text values and can be any text description.

    In the attribute controller select a product and apply this attribute pair to it.

    Set the price factor to .9 and the offset to 1 and insert this.

    Now look at the product & price and place in the cart and view the 10% discount applied.

    See if the is what you desire.

    Thank you, Cobra. This sounds like what I want to do and I will try it.

    Next question: When I tried to turn off the Sale Maker 10% discount I had set, the prices still do not show (says Price Unavailable) unless I log in. How do I get back to where I started before I did the Sale Maker?

    At first I just deleted the Grand Opening Sale Maker. No luck. Then I duplicated it and set the end date to today, applied to all products. No luck.

    When I set the attribute as you suggest, is there a way to globally apply it to all products?

    Yes, you can copy the settings and apply to another product or select to apply to an entire category(all products within).
