How do I create a "Call/email for shipping" for Alaska/Hawaii??

Hello I have a ZC cart that is working well so far.

We use one flat shipping rate for NY State and and one rate for the rest of the US.

How can I set up a "Please call/email for shipping" from AK/HI such that no shipping is added to the order, and then we tell the customer what to pay??

Alternatively is it better to just charge more for AK/HI/International instead of the above??

this is my first post actually offering help (and not requesting help) so if its all wrong then I apologise in advance, BUT, I have been working on something similar this morning and managed to get it working:

You need to install on of your free shipping modules and rename the fields within to say ' Please call us for a shipping cost'. What is actually happening is the c/mer is checking a 'free shipping' box (so no shipping added to order) but the TEXT HEADER says 'Please call us for a shipping cost'

You will find the file you need to change in languages/english/modules/shipping/then the name of the module you have used, dont forget to creat an overrride folder for this

Hello, thank you for writing...your idea makes good sense.

Using your method, is there a way to make shipping automatically be free/call for shipping if the person is in AK/HI?? Or do they actually have to select something??

The way my cart works now is it's auto-selected for NY State vs. US/Canada/Intl.

probably not the best way (I am sure there is a better one) but what about renaming the 'free' module "If you live in AK/HI then use this option for shipping" - or something to that effect
