How can this be set up ?

Wondering how I can go about setting this up.

This is kind of like a netflix thing.

Say I have 3 of the same dvds, and I rent them out on a per week basis. With a 3 week maximum, with the longer you rent it the cheaper the price ? And when all 3 are rented out at the same time it shows out of stock, How can I set all of this up ?

Firstly, I don't know. But, I do know that you are most likely not going to get an answer as your question would require a very detailed answer...in short you have asked how to build a dvd rental website.

Don't mean to sound negative, sorry just my opinion

Its not dvds at all, there are plenty of dvd scripts out there that I could buy if thats the case, and turn key sites as well. I just didnt know how else to relate the question at hand.

But anyways...Was just searching the site, Couldnt I do mutiple pricing, for a 1 week two week basis etc. I seen in the download section > admin tools > dual pricing. I could do that I suppose. Hmm.... Off to try it.

The pricing part is very straightforward. You can define product attributes for one, two and three weeks with the DVD rental price as that for 1 week and then add appropriate increments for 2 and 3 weeks.

The stock issue is straightforward. If you have three copies, set the stock to 3 and change the text on your sold out button to out of stock.

The challenges will be in areas about which you haven't asked. How do you track that a DVD is due back. There's nothing in Zen Cart for this. Returned videos would also need to be treated as new stock, which could get a bit clunky.

You could do Attributes with the Price Factor ...

Say the Products Price is $10.00

Week 1 is 1 on the Price Factor $10.00 Offset is 1 $10.00
    $10 + 10+(10 -10) = $10

Week 2 is 2 on the Price Factor $20.00 Offset is 1
    $10 + $10.00 20+(10 -10) = $20

Week 3 is 3 on the Price Factor $30.00 Offset is 1 $10.00
    $10 + 30+(10 -10) = $30

Then to alter the price you can adjust the Price factor so that these give a discount based on number of weeks ...

Then if you later change the price of the product, the attributes will proportionally change in price for you ...

I'd have to know what it is you set up your prices and price factor and offset to be for these to tell you where a computation is wrong ...

Sometimes seeing the URL to the Product helps ...
