    Default SQL Database Dump

I was wondering how easy it would be to dump somebody elses database (either as SQL or import it from an excel spreadsheet) into a Zen Cart database (assuming the cart in setup in the root folder)?

If somebody sent me their products via something like an excel spreadsheet, csv file, or of something similar, what fields would I have to delete or at least what field names would I have to change in order for the carts database to accept the import?

Its just that I want to start working on dropshipping and a merchant can send me their cart database/spreadsheet, I can then manipulate it so the content/prices are not the same, and then import it to my site as I think it will be easier & quicker to do than adding products seperatly via the CP, especially if there are hundreds of them.

This way too I can easily keep the cart up to date with the dropshippers weekly/monthly changes.

Has anyone ever tried this? Is there a tutorial that can take me through the process? It would be greatly appreciated :)

    Thank you and regards
    Terry

    Default Re: SQL Database Dump

Much depends upon the contributing DB's structure. Are you lucky enough that the other party is using Zencart???

ZenCart keeps information ion the DB about products, prices, attributes, etc in mor than one table within the DB. If these table descriptions do not match you can not insert this info directly and have ZenCart read it as it will most probably be inserted into other entries in the table and these are not ones that zencart will be querying.
It is a square peg in a round hole thing.

Look in the downloads section for the ezpopluate mod and see if this can assist you with the data that is provided to you and possibly they can provide it in a format that ezpopulate can read and you can then manipulate.
