Default Zero total weight in Cart not allowing to proceed to step 2

We have booklets for sale and have assigned them .25 weight. Also we checked "Yes, always Free Shipping"
Free Shipper is turned on and 0 weight means Free shipping can be either off or on, no difference.

The goal is to have free shipping on booklets.

When a customer goes to the shopping cart after adding 2 booklets to the cart the display will show Total items:2 Weight 0lbs

This sends Zencart into a loop where the customer can't get past step 1 because of zero weight.

If I uncheck the "Yes, always Free Shipping" on the catalog entry for the booklet then the weight will appear in the Cart Total and of course the customer can proceed to checkout but then shipping charges will be displayed.

I have also tried making the weights of the booklets 0 , no difference, The total weight display 0 and the checkout won't go past step 1.

Also if there is one item in the cart that doesn't have the "Yes, always Free Shipping" checked but others do, the order can be completed because there is a weight for the no free shipping item in the total.
    We are using 1.2.6
    Any ideas?
    Thanks for your help!

You should upgrade to at least v1.2.7 ... if not v1.3.0.2 ...

I am not seeing anything terribly complicated in your template to make this a difficult update ...

I see Products with 0 weight ... are these Free Shipping?

It looks like the Free Shipping freeshipper is not installed ...

If it is installed, Remove it and Install it again ...

Thanks for the help so far. I have now upgraded to both 1.27 and 1.302 (from 1.26) on my test site and I am still getting the same problem. If customers add only free shipping items to the cart when trying to check out, the checkout process will not get past the first step. For some reason Zero total weight shows up at the top of the checkout screen even though there is weight assigned in the catalog for the free shipping items.
As soon as I uncheck the free shipping option in the catalog for the cart items, the checkout can proceed to the the second step.
    Any other ideas?
Could there be other settings I am not setting that could cause this problem?
Is Zencart supposed to display total zero weight if the items in the cart all checked for free shipping?
I am shipping by price for zones. Would this effect the display of the Total weight in the checkout screen?

No Products have zero weight in the catalog
I uninstalled and re-installed free shipper
    Thanks again for any help!

If 0 weight means Free Shipping ... did you install the Free Shipping freeshipper Shipping Module?

NOTE: check your settings one more time in Shipping/Packaging just to be sure 0 weight is set right ...

Note: Always Free Shipping could use a little help from the Free Shipping freeshipper module too ...

    Thanks again for your help!
Well, I finally have free shipping working now. I found out that not only do you have to upgrade to 1.3.0.2 (and expirence all the fun that upgrading brings) but since the shipping module was re-written, there are some new settings that need to be set in the ADMIN that are not in the older versions. Once the new settings are set, it started to work properly and a checkout can complete.
Originally in my 1.2.6 install, I wanted free shipping on certain items and free shipping on orders over $50 dollars on orders in the US.
    All is well now!

Be careful not to mix up the two Free Shipping Modules ...

    Free Shipping freeshipper
    is for:

1 0 weight means free shipping

    2 Always Free Shipping Products

3 This only runs when the others do not

4 This will not show when the other Shipping Modules do show

    Free Shipping Options freeoptions
    is for:

A free shipping method to run at the same time as all other Shipping Methods ...
