Download Virtual Products

Is there a tutorial out there for adding virtual products to zen cart?

I would like to be able to my songs in mp3 downloadable form. (Yes, it's all original, and I hold the copyright... BMI...)

The real products are easy enough to add in. It looks like it must have something to do with product attributes. Do I upload the files to the download directory, and type the name in the "Downloadable products: Filename:" field? When I do that, and click "insert" it doesn't seem to stick. It still says "No Attributes Defined for Product"

Ok, I am trying to upload files for virtual products. However, I am somewhat familar with the Catalog Option Manager and all that pertains to that. But I think my path is wrong. I read in here some one put their files in their "download" folder inside the ZenCart download. I did not have one so I made one. Is that what I was suppose to do? The only other folder titled"download" is located in "root/mydomain/. So I uploaded the ZIP folder into the download folder I made inside my ZenCart, went thru the OptionValue Manager and all the steps I read about and I have a red dot instead of a green dot. I don't know how to turn on my downloads. Or anything about this " The /pub should be set to 777. The /download should be set to 755" So if anyone can give me a step by step or can talk me thru this thru Yahoo....my Yahoo Name is hells_lost_angel2000 and just send a message stating "ZEN CART" so I can approve you. Thanks so much....also Since I know NOTHING o this, It will have to be step by step since I will not Know where to go automaticaly. blink:

For future reference here's a complete setup guide for v1.3.x...

1: Upload zip file to zencart/download/ (Zip files work best, use other formats at your own peril)

2: admin > catalog > option name manager

insert:
option name: Download
option type: radio/dropdown (download Option Names should be Radiobuttons or Dropdown)

3: admin > catalog > option value manager

insert:
option name: Download
option value: File

4: admin > catalog > attributes controller

select product, hit display.
Select option name (download) and option value.
Add Attributes and file name, etc...

The next step for me is to protect my file from unpaid downloads?

AFAICT there is no code in place to do it. I am willing to write it if this is the case and will submit it as a patch.

To achieve this I would create a unique Id everytime the file was downloaded and copy it to a temp folder using the unique id as the name of the folder. Then I would delete the temp folder after the download expired. Using a cron job or checking whenever the site was accessed...

Has this or another method has already been implemented?

Hmmm. After furthur reading that method is pretty bad but the question still stands re protecting unauthorised downloads...
