Migrate Customer Info from another Database

We have all our customer informtation in another database and want to convert to the zen cart. I know how to insert the necessary data into the 3 tables related to customers but how do I move the password since it seems to be a hash in the zen-cart database?

Good Day,

Maybe a short list of alternatives:

1) If you have text passwords, create records using same hash method

2) A bit scary; assign everyone new passwords and send to user via email.
