Delivery information - continue checkout problem

A problem has suddenly appeared that wasn't there a few days ago so I must have done something but can't think what.

I can no longer move further than stage one of the three stages of the payment procedure (delivery information). When I click on the 'Continue Checkout' button it simply reloads the same page again (ie index.php?main_page=checkout_shipping).

Can someone tell me what might cause this looping to occur?

I have configured the site to only accept paypal payments.

Any help gratefully received.

Bob

Re: Delivery information - continue checkout problem

Solved it. I had somehow turned off shipping charges. I set them back on and hey presto.

Re: Delivery information - continue checkout problem

I'm having exactly the same problem, so many menu choices, I can't figure out where I would have turned off shipping, so I can see if that will fix the problem for me too. What is the menu path to change that?

Re: Delivery information - continue checkout problem

Following up on my post a few minutes ago, I found the path to change the shipping value, and it does seem to control whether the "continue checkout" button works or not.

I thought it would be in "Configuration->Shipping/Packaging", but it's not there, it's in "Modules->Shipping", there I had to change the value of the module, "FREE SHIPPING". For me the value, "Enable Free Shipping" MUST be set to TRUE for the "continue checkout" button to work. If I turn it off then the "continue checkout" button does not work. Set the value back to ture, and voila, it works!

The store I'm setting up primarily sells courses, and I don't have a need for shipping (in fact, it can be confusing to the user during check out and the follow up e-mail.)

Is there a way to disable the module without breaking the checkout process? If changing this setting is supposed to break the checkout process, there should be a warning somewhere before the administrator accidentally breaks the checkout process with a small configuration change.

Re: Delivery information - continue checkout problem

Just a follow up to my last post - any suggestions on how to configure the shipping module when shipping charges are not relevant to the purchase?

I'm using ZenCart to help folks sign up for spaces in a courses offered by a non-profit, and so the "FREE SHIPPING" is confusing to the folks signing up.

Re: Delivery information - continue checkout problem

Just to add my experience here for the benefit of others:

Using Zencart 1.3.7

I had the same problem, i.e. stuck at step 1 and not able to jump to Step 2.

I had installed only one shipping module: Free Shipping

But the product that I was trying to buy was mistakenly marked as "No, Normal Shipping Rules" in the product setup process.

So when I wanted to proceed to step 2, the script was not happy with the fact that I only had the free shipping module installed, yet this product required a shipping calculation...that's a contradiction. So it would just send me back to Step 1 again and again, i.e. I was stuck at Step 1.

Solution: Edited the product in question to change shipping type to "Yes, Always Free Shipping". That totally solved the problem right away.

Hope that helps someone else in this same situation.

Re: Delivery information - continue checkout problem

There is a handy dandy setting in the Catalog ... Product Types ... on each of the Product Types when you hit the Edit Layout button ...
Product Free Shipping Default Status - Normal Shipping Rules - When adding new products?
What should the Default Free Shipping status be when adding new products?
Yes, Always Free Shipping ON
No, Always Free Shipping OFF
Special, Product/Download Requires Shipping

Re: Delivery information - continue checkout problem

I've been having the same problem, and I've just worked out from reading this that it is ever since I loaded "Free shipping for their first order".

So if all stock is normally charged for shipping, how do I get around this to give them free shipping for their first order.... and free shipping on all orders over $300???

Re: Delivery information - continue checkout problem

I have been having the same problem with the checkout not going past the step #1.

I have only FedEx enabled, but also have found 3 FREE SHIPPING modules listed at FREEOPTIONS....FREE RULES.....FREE SHIPPER.....

I have enabled FREE RULES and added that all products over $45 will recieve free shipping.

Still no success to getting the cart to go to step #2....

Any ideas?

Did you read my previous post?

http://www.zen-cart.com/forum/showpost.php?p=422045&postcount=8

In my case, it was a contradiction between the shipping rules specified on the individual product setup versus the rules setup for the overall cart (i.e. the shipping modules). So maybe that could be a direction to check...try setting up some sample products with different shipping rules to see if they agree with the overall system rules better.

Re: Delivery information - continue checkout problem

Well I have UPS, FedEx, and USPS on the site. I have alternated between them and still no luck. All my products are set as NORMAL SHIPPING rules apply.

I have added product which is under the shipping rules limit of $45 for free shipping....and also large orders which would fit intot free shipping. Still no luck....really getting desperate.

For your reference, my 1.3.7 system works fine and it is setup as:

Shipping Module: Only one is activated. Freeshipper

My products are setup as:

Product is Free: No
Product is Call for Price: No
Product Priced by Attributes: No

Product is Virtual: No, Shipping Address Required

Always Free Shipping: Yes, Always Free Shipping

One testing option might be to see if you can setup one test product like mine and deactivate all the shipping modules except freeshipper...then see if it will work like mine does. I guess that does not really solve your problem but maybe it could be a first step towards isolating it. Then one by one, turn on modules and test other products to see if you can figure out where the problem occurs.

Sorry for the weak advice...maybe one of the resident geniuses will pop in at some point to offer some expert advice.

Re: Delivery information - continue checkout problem

OK, here is the test scenario I have created:

CUSTOM TEMPLATE MONSTER TEMPLATE:
Product - Normal Shipping Rules
Shipping is FedEx Ground and Free Options enabled with free rule for > $45

a) added 1 36.00 item....shows correct FedEx only...does not proceed past step #1
b) added 2 $36.00 items....shows correct FedEx and also FREE SHIPPING option. Does not proceed past step #1.
c) Changed Product to have free shipping always. Conducted A & B above, with same issue and not proceeding past step #1.

CHANGED TO DEFAULT GREEN TEMPLATE
Product - Normal Shipping Rules
Shipping is FedEx Ground and Free Options enabled with free rule for > $45

a) added 1 36.00 item....shows correct FedEx only...proceeds correctly to step #2

b) added 2 $36.00 items....shows correct FedEx and also FREE SHIPPING option. Proceeds correctly to step #2.

SO.... Does anybody know what files I should compare between the 2 templates to see what is missing?

My first guess would be to compare /includes/templates/yourtemplatename/templates/tpl_checkout_shipping_default.php.

Try using a program like winmerge (you can download it for free) to automatically compare every single line between the two files.

I am also using a Template Monster template and had quite a few similar mysterious problems during setup. You can find a massive thread of complaints about Template Monster templates elsewhere in this forum. Eventually I worked out all the bugs, but it was a large workload.

Re: Delivery information - continue checkout problem

I went through many of the files with ExamDiff to compare, and I am just about ready to make a manual hard coded link and let the programmers I am paying to look through the code to find it.

I did get a Template Monster template, but I uploaded it, and it works fine...looks like the template was altered by programmers to make a wider presentation and something went drastically wrong. But thank you for your help....

I am determined to find this

Re: Delivery information - continue checkout problem

I am having the same blank page problem and have checked all the files to make sure they are good. The URL is http://www.purebarre.com/shop

When I get to checkout Step 1 Delivery Information it is fine and I click Continue and the next page is a reload of checkout_shipping.php and is blank. I have 3 shipping modules set up each for a different zone...Table, Table2 (a copy of Table) and Per Item. I never edited the checkout_shipping page and if I just type in checkout_payment.php then it takes me to the correct page.

I need to get this site up quickly so any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.
