Duplicate option names? How do I handle this?

Perhaps I am not fully undestanding how to work with attributes and options but here is my question.

I have several products that are available in the same colors but the products are different. I want to know how to create option names that have swatches to do this:

    I have Chokers and Bracelets.
They are made of different materials and the color is not solid so I have swatches for each. There is a black choker and there is a black bracelet. I have created a Color attribue with options named Black, White and Violet. That attribute is assigned to Chokers. I make the bracelets in Black and Purple. The problem is: I need to have a Color attirubte to apply to Chokers and a Color attribute to apply to Braclets, each containing Black as an option but using a different swatch image. How do I do this? If I just create another Black option I won't be able to tell them apart in the list when assigning to products.

How is this handled when he option name is the same but the product and swatch are different?

    You can have:

    Option Name: Color

    Option Values:
    Red
    Yellow
    Green

And use them on different kinds of Products ...

The Attribute Images are added when you add the Attribute to the Product ... so when working on Chokers add the Red Choker image ... when working on the Red bracelet add the Red bracelet image ...

Another way is to call one Option Name: Color and the other Colors ... and this keeps the values of these ids separate ... if you need something like that ...

Thanks for replying but I am not clear on this.

    Here is what I have.

    Product: Choker
    Product: Bracelet

    Attribute: Color
    Attribute Options: Black, White, Violet

Each option has a swatch, but it's specific to Chokers

I need to be able to assign the Color attribute and the Option to Bracelets but the color swatches must be different to show different materials.

So selecting a Choker will display color swatches specific to Chokers and then different color swatches for Bracelets.

Is there a way to name the Attribute and then have it display other text in the actual layout? So the Attribute could be called Choker Color and Bracelet Color but when formatting the page for display both would just show the word Color.

    Does this make sense?

    Not really ...

When you add the image to the Attribute ... this is Product specific and Attribute specific ...

You can have 12 Products using Color Red and all 12 can have their own Attributes image ...

OK so if that is the case then am I just creating several options named Red? If this is the case then how do I differentiate them so when selecting a color the buyer is still only seeing Red?

You make 1 Option Name: Colors

You make 1 Option Value for each color:
    Red
    Yellow
    Green

    Find your Choker Product
    You add the Attribute:
    Color
    Red
    choker_red.jpg

    You add the Attribute:
    Color
    Green
    choker_green.jpg

    You add the Attribute:
    Color
    Yellow
    choker_yellow.jpg

    Find your Braclet Product
    You add the Attribute:
    Color
    Red
    bracelet_red.jpg

    You add the Attribute:
    Color
    Green
    bracelet_green.jpg

    You add the Attribute:
    Color
    Yellow
    bracelet_yellow.jpg
