Permanent Shopping Cart Question

This is probably an ODD question BUT does permanent shopping cart mean:

IF you have items in the cart and you close your browser (or turn off the computer) your items in the cart will still be there when you go back that cart?

This is exactly what I need, BUT what is happening on my site, is that the cart dissappears once you close the browser. I've made sure my computer accepts all cookies (privacy is low on my browser)... etc etc...

What could be the problem?
Could this be just a problem with my browser (I've tested on FireFox and IE).

This is going to sound like a stupid answer, but are you logging into the account that has items in the cart when you return to your site?

I have never experienced the problem you are describing, but the way it works is that the customer must have an account created, or create an account with those items in their cart, and THEN it will work when they next login to the site. It isn't storing your cart in cookies, it is storing it in the database with the associated customer info ;)

The cart is saved IF you are logged in when you close your browser ...

If you are not logged in, then there is no way to identify you to save the shopping cart ...

I was always thinking that you could just come back anytime.
I didn't know that you had to create an account to do that.

I was going crazy just trying to figure out what was wrong.
