    1.3.01 install = painfully slow!

I have an existing shop at: www.futurefreak.co.uk/catalog version 1.2.6
and I'm in the process of seperating out the baby from the adult stuff - so I thought I'd make a brand new shop and use the latest version: 1.3.0.1

This is not live yet but can be seen at http://www.futurefreak.co.uk/baby

First time I visit the index page -
    Code:
    Parse Time: 95.114 - Number of Queries: 70 - Query Time: 87.83100935733
a refresh a min or so later results in:
    Code:
    Parse Time: 2.001 - Number of Queries: 69 - Query Time: 0.81024710966492
    I have:
IP to Host conversion turned off.
    and Category counts turned off.
and both sites are hosted on the same server and database, so it's not a hosting issue as the 1.2.6 version runs ok.

I have seen talk of adding indexes to the database to speed things up - but that was for version 1.2.5 - do those indexes still apply for 1.3.0.1 ?

Is there anything else I can do to speed up the initial hit? As 95 seconds is a disaster for a first time customer.

Those figures are primarily because of your host, id speak to them.
I have the same code running on my site and it runs in a lot less time.

Please read the post properly and please don't just throw around the usual "it must be the hosting company", because as I said in my post "and both sites are hosted on the same server and database, so it's not a hosting issue as the 1.2.6 version runs ok."

Wow, great way to encourage people to help you.

Sorry, but I agree with Reesy. There is clearly a very wide variation in the time your server is taking to process requests. My first load returned Parse Time: 1.269 - Number of Queries: 70 - Query Time: 0.4227, which is less than half the time Merlin recorded and a fraction of the time you got for a first load. This suggests that it's not the code base that is causing the variation. So unless you're on a dedicated server, I'd be asking questions about what sort of server loading might be causing this level of variation.

Yep, I concur with reesy and kuroi, very much a hosting issue, I am in the UK

    Parse Time: 6.634 - Number of Queries: 67 - Query Time: 4.2875491931305

    Parse Time: 43.023 - Number of Queries: 68 - Query Time: 37.414541466248

    Parse Time: 4.480 - Number of Queries: 68 - Query Time: 2.3656127945404

    Parse Time: 2.338 - Number of Queries: 67 - Query Time: 1.0994702025299

    Parse Time: 3.106 - Number of Queries: 67 - Query Time: 1.3852447905884

You see the one thing that is constant, is your code and your images, therefore the likelyhood is your host.

You can and should set Gzip compression to 1 if you have not already done so, there is something that can be done with the database too that helps speed things up, but I do not believe these settings alone will help. As was suggested have a chat with your host.

Yes I read your first post and my reply is still valid.
A simple google search shows you did have an osc store and had problems with the osc sid being appended because of your configure files were wrong.
Good luck with zen cart and following simple instructions.

but then navigating to a new page, I get this:

    Parse Time: 19.940 - Number of Queries: 244 - Query Time: 17.104314694092
Time to move on - but I can't help technically, and I had similar issues (loading specials in admin up to about 5 minutes/product) - and then ended up moving from one server to the next. It went slower, until I moved to a ZC specialist host. Although there are sporadic, and frustrating issues my site now loads 300% faster than previous best, and the new server sounds like it's powered by a Ferrari or something.

But like you say, your exising/catalog site is acceptable!

I got this on a first click
    Parse Time: 2.563 - Number of Queries: 70 - Query Time: 1.4751065795746

and your bg header image is broke,

your image size is kinda high, the baby_ls_layered.jpg is 65 kb
the header bg is 325 kb

wont help much but it should help some
