Secure downloads

In a stock Zencart system, all downloads are stored in the download folder. So what prevents a buyer from buying 1 product, then publish a direct url on his website to where the product is stored? e.g. www.site.com/download/productname.zip when he now knows the name of the file.

Id like some views on this please.
