Subcategory display

Does anyone know how to change the lil ( - ) on the category sidebox to like a dot? Kinda like when you make lists. so instead of it showing

Home Decor
- Lamps
- Furniture

It would be (with the * substituted for the dot)

Home Decor
*Lamps
*Furniture


I have looked but either I am lookin in the wrong place or seeing it and not realizing it lol.

Also I want to add a sidebox where they can shop per catalog. How/where would I do this and how would I specify which items go in there?

aka have one box on top that says shop by catalog with the different catalogs in the menu then a seperate box below that for general/all categories
