Create categories and sub cat's in main page area

    Morning All

Can someone out there please let me know how to create a category that then leads in to a sub categories (etc) until it finally gets to the list of products?
I've done this fine in the navigation bar (this will be cat 1f) but cannot work out how to do it in the main display area of the page.

    URL www.niodonline.co.uk

I'm using the latest version of zen and the future zen template (what has made life a hell of a lot easier for a newbie like myself)

    Thanks

    Andy

This may sound more complicated than it really is.

    in admin -> catalog -> categories/products

Click on the New Category button and create your category.

One you have your new category, click on that category and your taken to a new page.

at the bottom of this page are two buttons (Back New Category) Click the New Cagegory button and create the category.

You now have a main category and a sub category.

To add products to the sub category click the name and your are taken to another page which has two buttons (Back New Product) click the New Product button and create your product.

You now have a Main Category -> Sub Category -> Product

As I said it sounds a lot more complicated than it is and after you've done it a couple of times it really is easy to do.

Re: Create categories and sub cat's in main page area

    Clyde,

Thanks for the response, but when i do that it makes the categories and sub cat's only appear in the top navigation bar, this is great and working OK.
What i would like to do (if possible) is to create different category's that appear in the main part of the page as a image with a broad description of the item eg executive chairs and sale items etc. On the test page Ive just shown them as 3 different chairs i would them to then go into a sub cat and another an so on until the customer reaches the product lists.

    Thanks

    Andy

Idea or Suggestion Re: Create categories and sub cat's in main page area

    Hello All

    Worked it out!!!!!

What you do is (if any one else is having the same prob) as describe by Clyde
to make the category and then make a sub category inside that one (or how many you want) with the images you want to display in the body of the main page area in the subcategories.
Then go to admin/configuration/layout settings and turn on the "main page - open with categories" (set to 1) then below that enter the main category number in the "categories - always open to show subcategories" line.

    This seems to work fine.

The only problem i can see is the main category still displays in the main navigation bar! Any idea's

Thanks for the update on how to utilize the settings in the Layout Settings to change the look of the main page and Categories ...

There are a lot of settings in there in regard to the Categories sidebox and display ...
