Best way to incorporate an already existing site into ZenCart?

I was already pretty far along in development of a site for my mother-in-law and wanted to add a cart for her business. I know my way around CSS (not an expert, but can write my own from scratch pretty decent) but I am not sure the best way to implement what I already have.

I like the 'sidebar' elements (categories, important links, new products, featured, etc.) but want to reorganize them into my 2-column fixed layout that I already have (instead of the default 3-column layout).

In Tools > Layout Boxes Controller, just make sure that all of your sideboxes are positioned only on the left. Then in Configuration > Layout Settings, you can set the Right Column Width to 0.

I am reading through a few posts, past links, etc. and trying to learn a bit. I did not think about that. That presents a great place for me to start.
