Help with background images in sideboxes

I can't figure out (not for lack of trying!) how to fix this...

I'm using header, footer and "middle" background images in my sideboxes. The problem is the middle image repeats itself even under the header and footer, giving my curved boxes an ugly result.

How do I keep the middle background image from creeping up under the head and footer images??
