That's very helpful.

I'm still trying to figure out why the default AAQ is linked to "Product - General" types.

Perhaps there is a thread somewhere that reveals all, but haven't encountered it thus far in my travels.

Guilty as charged. Didn't read ALL of the code.

The answer is that the tpl_product_info_display.php file seems to hold the alignment with Product - General types.
