    Default Installation Directories

In reading the installation instructions ie):

Now, change the permissions on the following directories to 777 (read/write/execute).

    /catalog/cache
    /catalog/images
    /catalog/includes/languages/english/html_includes
    /catalog/media
    /catalog/pub
    /catalog/admin/backups
    /catalog/admin/images/graphs

From this I get the impression that these directories should have been created somewhere during the installation. On my local they do not exist. On the server they also do not exist after my FTP upload.

If they should have been created during unzip, any ideas on what I missed? If not, can I assume that I can create them on my own then set the permissions as mentioned?

/catalog is a "generic" name for the directory you installed your site ...

    This could be:
    /store
    /shop
    etc.

Or it could be in the root:
    /

    Linda,
Thanks for that. However, I'm still not clear. Should those directories have been created during the unzip and/or ftp upload or must I create them manually?

From the doco it sounded like they shoould have been created somewhere automatcially in the process. But they were not.

Any further info would be most helpful.

    Thanks

    Garth

    Garth-

If you installed your shop in your root directory, you will not have the /catalog/ section in the paths.

Thanks for that. I installed into a directory name "catalog" which is at the root itself. But I'm wondering about these directories mentioned in the doco.

    /catalog/cache
    /catalog/images
    /catalog/includes/languages/english/html_includes
    /catalog/media
    /catalog/pub
    /catalog/admin/backups
    /catalog/admin/images/graphs

    and

    /catalog/images/attributes
    /catalog/images/dvd
    /catalog/images/large
    /catalog/images/large/dvd
    /catalog/images/medium
    /catalog/images/upload

In the doco after listing these image subdirectories it say "this is a partial list". This makes me think that they should have been created automatically. But I do not have any directories or subdirectories under Catalog. Any further thoughts?

    Thanks Much
    Garth

When you unzipped the Zen Cart files on your PC, how many folders did you get?

You need to upload the same folder structure as the zip file contains.
If you told your unzip program to ignore folder structure, you'll need to re-extract the files telling it to unzip into the folders it contains inside the zip.
