Recover Administrator Password

Hi all, I forgot my administrator password. I got a new one by email after clicking the resend button, but it doesn't work. I still can not log in with this password. Is there any other way to recover the lost password? Thanks!

Re: Recover Administrator Password

If your Admin forgotten password is not working, you will want to look at your database via phpMyAdmin and browse the admin table ...

Do you see your username?

There should only be 1 match ...

Does it have your correct email address?

Again, this should only have 1 match and be associated with your username ...

Do you have duplicate records on either the admin name or email address?

Re: Recover Administrator Password

Yes, I used the same email adress to register a trial customer account. That's probably the reason why the resend password doesn't work.

Re: Recover Administrator Password

The customers table and the admin table are totally separate ...

You can have an Admin login with the same email address as a customer login ...

What we need to determin is has the data in the admin table become corrupt in some manner or duplicated in some manner that the forgotten password is not working that you recieved in the email ...

Note: it is suggested that you copy and paste the password that you recieved to rule out typos and be careful not to capture spaces ...

Hi, I'm looking at the Zenadmin tale by PHPMYADMIN. There's no duplicate, the email address is correct, the password shows like this 802cdbc8e639a4cc4af52f4387b0c4fb:43

Can I change the password here? or add a new record in this table directly.

Thank you for all your help!

Re: Recover Administrator Password

Hi!

I just encountered the same problem - forgot my admin ID and password. (It had been "autofilling"... I went on vacation... now that I'm back the autofill has expired, and idiot that I am, I didn't note what the login info is!)

However... I am utterly lost and intimidated by phpMyAdmin.

How do I use it to view my admin name and password?

Sorry to ask such a basic question. After managing to set up the database (my first) using my webhost's control panel, I've only interacted with it through ZenCart.

Thanks!
Cosmo

Re: Recover Administrator Password

You cannot view your password ...

Do you know your admin username?

If not, in phpMyAdmin ... browse the admin table and you should see your admin_name and admin_email

Go to your Zen Cart Admin and hit Forgotten Password and send yourself a new one ...

Ok, so what happens when the send password doesn't work? I enter in my e-mail address, it e-mails me the password. I copy and paste it into the password box, but it still won't work. I made sure i was using the admin name and not the e-mail, but it just won't work. I've tried it a hundred times with no success???

Just a thought. If a person is using the correct user name, and the resend password did send a password to the user, it is hard to believe the user can still not lock in.

Be carefull not to assist with this kind of query on the open forums as we might inadvertantly assist hackers to find a way of accessing the admin section of zencart hosted sites.

As I said, "Just a thought"

Well thanks for the help and suspicon. This was a legitimate request, and actually I figured it out. I believe their is a bug with older versions of ZenCart in regards to the admin reset area. I found another thread that mentioned how to fix the problem.

And I believe this was posted by the Zen Cart admin, so if they think it is secure enough to post, then I will as well. So for anyone that is having a similar problem, here is the link the admin posted:

http://www.zen-cart.com/wiki/index.php/Errors#You_entered_the_wrong_username_or_password

After you have done the above, upgrade your zen cart to version v1.3.0.2 (if you haven't already). You will then finally be able to log in. If you do the above and you are not upgraded to the latest version you still will not be able to get in....

Thanks,
Damion

Another good reason to keep your site up-to-date. Security fixes are always added ASAP when problems are found. The latest version will always have all known fixes included.

Very true. Unfortunately I had used fantastico to install the script, and they always seem to be one or two versions behind....

Re: Recover Administrator Password

Even if you originally started with a Fantastico install ... you can begin to maintain your own site and do your own upgrades ...

You can practice by making a test directory on your site /testing and a test database ... and copy all of the Full Zen Cart v1.3.0.2 to your /testing directory ...

Read through the /docs files to help you get started ...

When you install this test site ... install the demo products ...

These will help you learn a lot about Zen Cart, the features, product setup, etc.

When upgrading a Live site ... I always start with a /new_shop directory and copy my Live site to that directory ...

Then I make a new database and load a copy of my Live site database into it ...

Then I update the 2 configure.php files to match my /new_shop and my new database name, username and password ...

Now I practice upgrading ...

There are numerous detailed threads on upgrading sites in this manner that you might do some searches on ...

I was definitely not implying that your request was not legitimate. I just want to caution against giving hackers a platform where they can get easy access to information on how to gain control on a zencart based site. The solution you quoted still require the person to at least have access to the database to run the quiry. I have seen posts on other software support forums where solutions that can be run from any browser where freely handed out. That is what I am objecting against.

Is there a way to change the admin password via phpMyAdmin? It's showing it, but it's (I'm guessing) encrypted.

Try changing encryption(your password), via phpmyadmin, to
dc647eb65e6711e155375218212b3964
that should make it Password, then just login and change it.
STRONGLY ADVISE BACKING UP DATABASE FIRST!!
