Split front page.

Ok, just wondering if what I am about to suggest is possible, and if so, how to go about it, bearing in mind that I severely lack php abilities.

Ok, well, I plan to fairly regularly update my front page with new content. But I also want to maintain a similar layout to keep the clients aware of the site. As such I want to split the front page's centre content column in two.

the top section will be, for the most part, just a description of the site and services, that will rarely change.

Below that however, I want to have a "Recent News and Updates" section, whereby I can give visitors a look at what is new on the site. I would like it to be somewhat like a standard cms entry, whereby there is a small amouont of text with a "read more" link, taking the visitor to the article. That's what I would like.

I have read a bit on the forums about word press ports, this would seem like something to work with, but I couldn't find a link for a download for this version.

If the above isn't possible, I would still like to have the split page, but I could then create the news articles in full using EZ Pages, then just link to them on the front page.

Would the best way to do this be simply to artificially split the page, just by having a line or something in the same page(the main page text), and keep editing this page?
