Can't email AOL users?

I'm running version 1.2.7 - database patch level 1.2.7, on a unix server, php version 4.4.2 (Zend: 1.3.0), MySQL version 4.0.27-standard and I cannot send any emails to AOL users - they are never recieved. This includes newsletters.

Someone suggested that I ask my host to set up a "Reverse DNS Record" for my MX Record for my domain. My host said that to do this I would have to be placed on a private IP and that it would cost me an additional $2/month.

They gone ahead and done this and I still cannot email AOL users. Has this happened to anyone else? Any suggestions?

What are you using for Email Transport Method in Admin->Configuration->Email Options?

It's set to sendmail

try sendmail-f

this will cause the server to supply your account's username when sending the email. This might help get around spam filters.

If you do this, TEST TEST TEST ... make sure ALL other email functions in your store are working properly before deciding to keep this setting active.... every host is different, and this setting may or may not be better for "your" host.
