Is there a way to require a purchase?

My client has a product that he only wants to be available as an upgrade. It would make sense to do a package deal with both products but this is an extended warranty type of product.

Is there a way to maybe have a link on their purchse confirmation email that would give access to buy the upgrade later? And the product be hidden otherwise?

I cured this by making required form field attributes for provious product purchased and date of purchase.
