    Default Next Button Off-line

Totally new to ZenCart but am so very grateful for all the answers I have found doing a search through the forums. Thank you, thank you, thank you to all who posted and all who answered!

I have a problem that I havent been able to find in the forums however...

My Previous/Next buttons lay out great on my page and I have no problem working the settings through my admin controler. The problem I have is with my Next button in that when it is clicked it will take you some times to the stores home page, some times to the catagory home page but never to the next item in my store. The previous button works great (most of the time at least) as does the Product Listing button.

Im stumped... anyone have any ideas on how to fix this problem or where the controls for these buttons are located in the program files?

Have you an URL that we could peek at?

    What version Zen Cart?

Is this a clean install or an upgrade?

    URL is http://www.LeadDogGraphics.com/store

Or a direct page is here... http://leaddoggraphics.com/store/ind...roducts_id=251
    Buttons are at the bottom

I believe it is an upgraded version though I cant be 100% sure because a friend did most of the set up for me.

Not sure of the version either but I do believe its the latest one... Did a search in Admin for updates on the site and it said I was already running the latest update...

Look in the Layout Settings ...

Categories - Always Open to Show SubCategories
    Always Show Categories and SubCategories
0= off, just show Top Categories
1= on, Always show Categories and SubCategories when selected
Do you have that set to 1?

Set it to 0 ... does this fix that issue?

Look in the Admin ... Tools ... Server Info ...

If you could paste from below the menubar to the php version ... that would be of help on the version info ...

Is set to zero... Still having the problem...

Is this the info you need?
    Zen Cart 1.2.6
    Database Patch Level: 1.2.6
    PHP Version 4.3.11

So that was where my version info was hiding!

That is a really old version and very buggy ...

    I'd upgrade to v1.2.7 if not v1.3.0.2 ...

Your template does not appear to be terribly complicated ... it might be a good time to take the plunge and go for it for v1.3.0.2 ...

NOTE: you did not use the templates and overrides system ... this means an upgrade will overwrite all of your changes ...

NOTE: before attempting an upgrade be sure to do a good backup of both the database and the website ...

I would make a test directory such as /new_shop and load v1.3.0.2 into it ... then make a test database and load a copy of your Live database into it ... then change the paths and database information on the files /new_shop/includes/configure.php and /new_shop/admin/includes/configure.php and run the upgrader with /new_shop/zc_install ...

Now you have a play area where you can learn how to use the templates and overrides correctly and get your site upgrade to the latest version of Zen Cart ...

I would also run through all of the Payment, Shipping and Order Total modules and record their current settings then uninstall and reinstall and configure them as they could easily be out of date or missing features ...

Are there new options in the new version as well? Im finding that I want to do a few different things and offer new options that Im not finding in the version Im using.

When you mention that it will overwrite my changes do you mean just to my settings like color and layout or will it affect all the products Ive entered as well?

Im just getting the hang of ZenCart and working with coding so Im hesitant to try something that may be over my head... still, Im curious enough to try it with proper backups of course!

The upgrade will overwrite anything you did in the Classic template as that is a default template ...

Providing you Upgrade your database, you will not lose products ... but you do want to backup your database incase something goes wrong in the upgrade process ...

We recommend that while Classic does come with Zen Cart v1.3.x ... that you use the base from template_default to build your templates and overrides as this is a better design for your future ...

There are numerous posts on design, templates and overrides to help you out plus a lot of samples in the Downloads as well as help here on the forum ...

The bug fixes, security issues, numerous new and improved features, etc. that v1.3.0.2 will provide will really overwhelm you ... and make it well worth the upgrade ...

Thank you so much for all your help! I think its going to be a long night but Im sure will be well worth it in the end...

One last question... If I rename my site layout file folder to template_default will that transfer bugs over from the old version or should I go through and make my changes one by one until they look like the old site?

    Don't do that ...

    /includes/templates/templates_default

Should never ever be touched ...

Just as the original language files should never be touched:
    /includes/languages/english.php
    /includes/languages/english/whateverfilename.php

You can copy the peices you might need to your own template and override directory but you only copy the peices you actually need or touch ... not everything ...

You might get yourself backed up and upgraded first ... to the Full Zen Cart v1.3.0.2 ... do NOT use the Changed version to upgrade ...

Then, download one of the templates from the Downloads and see how they are done to get an idea of what templates and overrides are all about ...
