    Default Shipping Math Function Glitch

    Zen Cart Version 1.3.0.1 patched

    I am using the Zone Rates as the mode of shipping.

    I have set the max package weight as 20kgs in the admin. When an order of 3 items is placed, with the weight of each individual item as 9kgs resulting in a total order weight of 27kgs. the estimator correctly splits this into 2 packages but then proceeds to also split the total weight in half, or 13.5kgs.

    This should be one package of 2 items @18kgs and another with one item @ 9kgs.

    Is this a function that I can edit to correct? or one that for the time being must be accepted?

    A pointer to where this math is processed would be helpful

    Unfortunately the number of boxes guestimator does not try to pack the boxes to know what will fit of the weight based on a per product packing ...

    You might just turn off the box display to avoid the issue ...

    NOTE: upgrade to v1.3.0.2 ... you got lots of bugs running around ... don't be sad later ...

    Thanks Ajeh...I was sort of expecting that this was the case...but then you have many switches for things that I never envisioned so asking is always a safe path...

    OK, have upgraded to 1.3.0.2...

    OK, I understand this. But what I am getting now is:
    HTML Code:
    max package weight = 20kgs
    order weight       = 21kgs
    the shipping is being calculated upon 2 packages with a weight of 10.5kgs instead of the total weight of 21kgs.

    10.5kgs = $36.00 times 2 is totaling $72.00
    21.0kgs = $52.00

    As there is a sliding scale as the weight increases this figure is not correct and more than it should be for a 21kgs order.

    So while the boxes guestimator does not try to pack the boxes, the shipping estimator is ignoring the total weight and using the box guestimator as the package weight for calculation.

    What might be the cure for this calculation error?

    If you just want the total weight for shipping used then do not put in a maximum weight per box.

    Kim,

    Thank You for that work aroung. But this defeats the basic purpose of having a 'maximum weight per box' selection and function with one that incorrectly calculates the rates.

    I do see the complications in this as it is difficult to determine the actual package manifest. And for US shipping this becomes only a matter of $1-2 variance for ground. It is another matter for international shipments

    It can be mediated somewhat by creating large tables for rates but might be easier through internal math/logic even if then incorrect, it might be closer to actual.
