Incorrect product weight displaying

I have entered a product weight of 0.7 lbs and yet when I check out the test product it displays a weight of 3.7 lbs and a shipping fee that corresponds to a product weighing 3.7lbs.
I have table rate shipping installed based on weight:
0.7:4.50,1.9:6.50,10000:13.00

What have I done wrong?
