Sidebox Submenus Showing On All Pages

I'm modifying a zen cart 1.3.0.2 and want to have all the sub-categories in the sideBoxContainer available on all the pages. In other words, on the home page (and all the rest of the pages too) we'd have

Categories

Books and Study Materials->
|_Books
|_Workbooks
|_Ebooks

Media->
|_PowerPoint
|_Images



and so on so that a client can move from category to category with one click.

What's the fix? I thought Admin>Configuration>Layout Settings>Categories - Always Open to Show SubCategories would do it, but alas, there's no joy there.

You did not provide a link to your site but if you are selling books there are a couple of nice mods for you in the downloads section.

First for the menu look for 'better categories'...
