    Default 2 newbie questions

    Hi all,
Complete shopping cart newbie here. I have 2 questions:

    1. Is it possible to integrate Zencart into an existing website. Is so, how?

    2. If I have a product that has multiple styles is it possible to make a dropdown box that lists all of the multiple styles and their total prices? Example: Style A: $10 Style B: $14 Style C: $19.

I know it is possible to have a dropdown box that says to add a certain amount to the base price for some option. Unfortunately, this does not really apply in the cae I am thinking of.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Joe

The answer to 1. is yes, but how depends on how the existing website has been built. The simplest, adopted by many people, is to have a site that includes a directory called shop or store and a link to the shop/index.php from the other pages of their site. However, if your site is generated from a CMS, it would be a little more complicated.

The answer to 2. is also yes, but you would have to do a little programming, but it's not difficult. You would simply locate the code that generates the drop down menu to which you referred and adjust what is displayed to show the price + offset instead of just the offset. You would need to be careful to have the menu still return just the offset, so that the rest of Zen Cart continues to function properly and you would probablt want to suppress the display of the base price, which you would require going through the various Admin > Configuration pages (All Listing, Featured Listing, New Listing) to turn it of in each case (you may need to tweak the product listing page directly). You may even with to consider giving the products a zero price and then setting the price entirel;y via the attributes function.

I can't help myself...kuroi that was kinda long winded...don't try to complicate.... the last sentence of your post was it...
You may even with to consider giving the products a zero price and then setting the price entirely via the attributes function.
yup a simple price by attribute....

Sorry Mike, if Joe is happy to show his clients zero prices then hit them with higher amounts when they try to buy, then I'm over complicating.

If he can't be bothered to make his prices read as "$nn.nn" instead of "0.00 + $nn.nn" then I'll plead to the charge (though only of over complicating - not trying to over-complicate - a rather insulting accusation).

But I rather doubt that he is, so although I'll try to remember your preference for only getting part of the answer, I'm afraid that Joe and everybody else will continue to get proper responses.

I apologize, to quick to shoot my mouth off..... I should have asked if it was necessary for it to be a drop down or could it be .....say radio buttons...if drop down was what was needed then Kuroi would be right with hack the code ( to paraphrase) which would be above my paygrade. If radio buttons would suffice then price by attributes would work fine as the price listed by the title of the product would be listed as "STARTING AT:"

Kuroi I admit to my poor choice of words... please don't take me so literally...just a poor truck driver here, what do you call them over there across the pond lorry (sp?) drivers....also ex US navy so sometimes my english strays a bit... I probably need to employ my own editoral staff to review my posts before they go up. See now I'm getting long winded blah, blah, blah

It actually turned out to be rather easy. I simply set the price of each item at 0.00. The said that the item was priced by attribute. At this point I had to get rid of the + in front of the attribute price, which was also rather easy. After doing this I have an item that says "Starting at: $x.xx" (whatever is appropriate for the small size of that product) and a dropdown box that lists the 2 sizes of the product and what the appropriate price is. The ropdown defaults to the small size, which is the starting at price and the 2nd option is the large size which just has the higher price. Nice and simple.

No problem Mike. Seems like Joe managed to simplify my suggestion so maybe there was some overcomplicating in there and I appreciate your straight talking.

I also agree with your suggestion that this might be better as a radio button than a two option drop down menu. Much more visible and easier to use for customers.

We would call you a lorry driver over here, but we don't see it as equivalent. Lorry driving seems like a hard slog through rain and bad weather interspersed with poor meals in greasy cafes. Whereas, thanks to the movies, we recognise that truck drivers have big shiny rigs, that you drive on vast open roads, under beautiful clear skies, stopping only for fabulous meals, in wonderfully clean diners, served by beautiful young waitresses, interspersed only by the occasional pyschotic need to run innocent car drivers off the road.

I want that job. What movies have you seen? Shiny rig? theres still paint on my truck?....maybe i should check on that. ahhh yes the ocassional pyschotic need to run innocent car drivers off the road, natural selection needs a little push in the right direction everyonce and a while.
