I just wanted to confirm that I wanted to set the permissions for the whole html_includes file.
It's good to ask. Following to what TinaS said, above, you can always find the answers from your docs's installation instructions on how to set the CHMOD permissions properly to make sure that all folders are being ajusted correctly.

    Thank you both,

My host set up zencart basics for me, so I didnt get any installation instructions probably why I didnt have a clue what was going on

I will go and check the define pages editor now, but thinking about it, I could edit those before, so hopefully I still can. Ohhh zencart is such fun, good job I love to learn.

You may wish to do a download of the current Full Zen Cart v1.3.0.2 so that you have a clean copy of all files ...

Plus, you should maintain a full copy of your site offline on your computer ... in addition to consistant backups of your database ...

Very well. Just make sure that your host has installed the latest version of Zen-Cart (which is: v1.3.0.2) and you'll be all set once all the folders will be set correctly.

In the mean time, if you have no clue how the permission works, over Zen-Cart, you can always download a copy yourself from sourceforge.net and go to your docs folder to gather more information on how to proceed by the letter.

Note: No need to re-upload any files. Simply jump into your docs folder is enough.

Well, the good news is that I can edit pages in define page editor.

The bad news is that I am a numpty prior to this thread I had asked how to put a link on a product page for a pdf file, and was given the instructions to change the permissions to either 755 or 744, but the tutorial I was following was to set the files to 777, so I have changed them to 777, but now need to go back and change them to either 744 or 755

    Thank you all
    Kind Regards
    Nikki

If so, make sure you make the changes from your cPanel access account and not from your FTP access, since - under FTP - you have more limitations than cPanel for an unknown reason.

    Thanks Oracle,

I am on version 3.01, I did email them the other day to see if they will upgrade it for me, as I have read some horror stories of people upgrading and some terrible things happen. I could not handle mucking it up..lol..

So hopefully they will upgrade it soon, thanks for letting me know where I can get the instructions, that will be super..lol.. pity they didnt let me have the instructions to start off with, I would not have asked so many silly questions on here..lol

You guys have taught me loads
    Kind Regards

It might be me but I don't think that time spins that fast in our universe. Zen-Cart is actually at v1.3.0.2.

Thanks for updating - good luck.

Thanks Linda, I have only just noticed your post 5 (I bad) sorry

I did not dare upgrade myself, as when I searched the forum, I found a lot of people had problems, and I would hate to muck things up badly, so I have asked my host to do it, dont think they have yet though.

Just wondered, in my control panel I have a backup facility that says

    Backup Your Website
This feature allows you to download your website as a zip file, you can use this feature to make a regular backup of your website in case you lose any data.

Is this how I actually back up my files, or do I have to back up the files elsewhere aswell?

    Thanks again
    Nikki

    Have you tried it?

Does the Zip actually contain your whole website?

Note: you also need to backup your database on a regular basis ...

There is a nice handy dandy Backup MySQL that we have written that is plug-n-play ... DrByte has put a lot into this one to make it as compatible as possible with about 95% of the sites out there ...

And I didn't even have to rough him up ... well ... not a lot ...
