    creloaded to zencart

    Hi,

I currently use creloaded because zencart didnt work with the hosting company I have. I am moving to a new host with fantastico so I am thinking zencart has to work there.

so... I wanted to know if there was a way to take my products, product images and categories, maybe even my infoboxes from my current creloaded store and plop them into my new zen cart installation?

I searched the forums here and didnt see a solution. I found one answer for transferring over oscommerce, but I'm a bit too ignorant on the subject to know if it will work for creloaded too and I am also found the directions to transfer over from osc to zen a bit vague for my level of understanding as far as some tweaks it hinted at doing after you transfer over the needed tables.

I understand how to import and export tables using phpmyadmin, but knowing what other tweaks might need changing after that ... I am clueless

If this is possible and if someone would be willing to give a step by step, that'd be great. thanks

Just because a host has fantastico dosnt mean that they actually are setup to run it properly,

as for picking up cre and moving it to zen,
    NO
there is a migration tutorial in the archives section in the downloads but that will move customers orders products and such,
the boxes in zen are dynamic, move em how you want,
If there are some that you have that are not in zen or the dl section they wight have to be converted

msnow ... sorry, there is no step-by-step tutorial available at the present time.

It's a rather advanced topic, taking fields from one database structure and trying to find a matching home in another database structure.

Each field has to be considered on a case-by-case basis.

While CRE and Zen Cart have some similarities, there are a great number of differences between the two. The tutorial mentioned does address the basic concepts.

BE SURE TO DO LOTS OF BACKUPS

You could start by comparing structures, and wherever a field in CRE doesn't exist in Zen Cart, check to see if you can live without that data, and if so, delete the field from your CRE (a COPY, not the master) database. Then, once you have no fields in any of your CRE tables that don't match Zen Cart fields+tables, you could do an export of the tables, using the Extended Inserts option in phpMyAdmin (turn OFF the "Structure" checkboxes).... and attempt to import data into your temporary Zen Cart database. Then work on resolving differences.

As I said, it's a rather advanced topic, but the above can get you started in the right direction along with the mentioned tutorial.

thanks, I now understand it's not just a matter of a little more explanation. i wouldnt expect someone to go into as much detail as it sounds like for free. I think it'd be quicker if I just started from scratch doing a bunch of copy/paste if thats possible.

    thanks again

Whichever way you decide to do it moving from CRE is a good move - the code is like a mass of spaghetti and if anything goes wrong your chances of tracking down the problem are slim.

The funny thing is, in any cart forum you vist, they will say that about all the other carts and people like me who are php/mysql ignorant and trying to pick a cart are just left shaking and trembling over what cart to choose and hope for the best.

Not trying to start a battle between cart worlds, just making an observation. It's my understanding that zencart was rewritten from the ground up and there is a fair amount of documentation so I will happily make the move when I have time to manually move my products over... or else read that php/mysql book collecting dust on my bookcase to figure out how to do it quicker.

Yes, that's true, except that I have had experience of CRE Loaded and Zen Cart and can say that Zen Cart is streets ahead of CRE Loaded - and that comes from an ex-Team Member of yet another shopping cart!
