Small images vs Large Images

One of the things that I would like to do is change the coding so that when it loads my list of producst it loads up smaller gif files so it won't be so cumbersome on anyone with a dial up connection. I like to program it so that I can then have it pull a much larger and more detailed jpg when they click on the view larger image option...does anyone know how I can do this?

The functionality to use 3 image sizes is built-in. Or you can add the Image Handler (download add on) to resize your images automatically.
