please help with attributes

I just installed zencart, for the third time.
All i have done so far is add 2 files to the download folder.
Before i go any further(and screw it all up again)
I need to know a few things.
My goal is to utilize Zencart for the following process
My customer purchases my "how to file"(its in the download folder) at Paypal's website. ( I have the Paypal button published on my site, not zencart store)
I understand how to setup Paypal's Instant Payment Notification.
What I dont understand...
Setting up the products attributes.
I want my customers to receive an Automatically generated Email message, with a link in the body of the message, to download the file.
My customers will be redirected to my site(not zencart store) the page will read
"thank you for your purchase, check your email and click on the link to download your file".
The link will expire after 1 download, and is good for one day.
How do i setup the file
And what do I need to do, to setup the zencart store to send the email with the expiring link.
I swear if i ever get this to work, i WILL be donating to Zencart.
Please help, and remember i'm new to this stuff, so please, "LEHMAN" terms if you can.

First, when using Zen Cart you want to use the built in downloads system. The way the system works on the Customer side is:

Customer chooses Download.

Puts it in their cart.

Goes to checkout.

Pays for file by going to PayPal and gets redirected back to your site when finished paying.

When they come back to your site they get a thank you page with their download link available there ( as long as their payment has been verified )

i GUESS ITS JUST NOT POSSIBLE.
zencart is awesome, but i guess it just doesnt have the capability that im looking for.
now to find something that does

I don't get why you are complaining - Zen does exactly what you are asking. Though Linda told you that it returns to your site with the download link it also sends an order confirmation with the exact same info. It allows you to set time limits and/or max download # etc.

It's not that nobody read what you said - it's just that her reply left out the part about sending an email as well.
