    Default Classic Vs Default template

    Hi all zenners;

I have been working on zen for almost 3 weeks now, it has been great but slow with many trials and errors.

I have tried the classic and the default template, I have notice that it is much easier to use the classic especially when you want to position flash (swf) without any problems because it is table based. I read some post here that mention to use the default template instead of the classic as it may not be supported in the future . May I have your views/opinion on this matter.

    Thanks.

the current classic template is in place as a backwards compatible template, it was there to show people how to upgrade from 1.2

The template default is actually alot easier to use,
you can actually just pick up <div> </div> and move them

it also uses 1 stylesheet for overall design,
remember which ever way you go to use the correct over ride structure

Thanks, I will fiddle around with it some more.

My main problem with default template which I did not encounter with the classic is when I place my flash (swf).

In classic: When I place my flash (swf) and have Deamweaver 8 correct the activeX so that it won’t show the “click to activate and use control” it works fine.

In default: When I correct the activeX, my flash won’t show at all. It will only show if I do not correct the activeX.

My website www.getreload.com is currently using the default template (NightFall theme).

Your views are greatly appreciated. Thanks.

There is a post here on how to use javascript to avoid the click to start IE problem here:

    http://www.zen-cart.com/forum/showthread.php?t=34807

That is an IE issue not a Zen issue and the tutorial works perfectly ( you can see it in place at http://azpoolplans.com ) which is based on template default as are all sites that I work on.

    Hope that helps!

Yup, I totally agree with you that it is an IE issue not zen, thanks for the link I will implement it tonight.

Many thanks to you and Merlinpa1969.

I used the default template to base my template on and have hit a brick wall when it comes to one area ... how to place the swf files into the pages in zen cart, I have tried numerous searches but still getting nowhere.

Here is the problem the site owner has a logo that consists of a jpeg image 592px wide by 165 px high and two swf files to the right of this.

I have placed the logo jpeg in place no problem, just cannot figure out how to place the two swf files to the right of the logo. So that it matches his existing site.

Existing site can be seen at:

    www.definitivecvworld.co.uk

Clicking on ebooks gives link to zen (still work in progress) would also like to be able to use same background image instead of plain white.

Can anyone give me a few pointers to try, please

    TIA
    Best Regards

    Keith

Getreload : That is the part that is calling your flash hun - so instead of the <embed src...." code you would use that javascript.

So if you are wanting the flash in your header it would go in includes/templates/YOUR_TEMPLATE/tpl_header.php

Finding the exact location as far as line or anything - I am sure you will see it - you got this far

Kallell : I would create a new wrapper for the flash items in my css and use those wrappers to place the flash where it should go. Or you could use the taglineWrapper (if you aren't using the tagline in the site) and put the flash in there using the tagline wrapper to control where they place.

    Hope that helps

    Hi TinaS

Don't understand what you mean by wrapper & tagline, ( not a web designer or developer) all these terms are alien to me. Have tried to use CSS Viewer in FF to try and figure it out. Can see mainwrapper and header wrapper, but not tagline.

Also opened MyTemplate.css in Crimson Editor but with over 400 lines of code not sure what I'm looking for.
    Best Regards

Which template did you use as your base for your template ?

It would be easier to write your own wrapper if you can't find the tagline entries in your css.

    EDIT ------

OOOPS dumb ###### attack - sorry Kallel - you stated you used the default.

In the orginal css you should see #tagline and #taglineWrapper. Unless you removed the defines while you were customizing.
