    Default US vs. International shipping

A couple of weeks ago I read a post on here about how to implement a shipping system where there are two zones, US and Non US. A poster here named Linda posted detailed instructions about how to import SQL code that listed all of the countries other than the US and put them in a "Non US" zone. This was brilliant and I followed the intructions and they worked great.

Non I don't know how to actually implement this and apply it to my cart. Do I do something in the Modules > Shipping > Zone Rates area of the admin? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

    Admin->Modules->Shipping

    - edit the shipping module to be used for US shipments ... and set its Zone to US
    - edit the other shipping module to be used for non-US shipments ... and set its Zone to International

Perhaps this link would help anyone in building a World Zone or an International Shipping Zone that includes everyone except the US ...

NOTE: Be sure to backup your database before adding the zones that I build for this ...

Be sure to test your shipping when using this zone to assure that this is really what you wanted to do ...

    Dr. Byte,

Thanks for the reply. I'd like to use the "Zone Rates" shipping module for both US and International. Is this possible? I type "International" into Zone 2, and then when I test the cart with an International address it says "No shipping available to the selected country." Or is there another way I should be doing this? Thanks.

International has no meaning in the zones.php

You need to use the 2 character code in the Admin ... Locations / Taxes ... Countries ...

And have all of them in there except the US ...

    Fun eh?

Yikes. Is there a more effective way to do this kind of US vs. International shipping using a different shipping module than the Zone Rates one?

What I want is pretty simple: A tiered price/shipping structure for US, and a separate one for International, because it costs more to ship out of the US. So for instance, for the US, total under $20 shipping is $5, total under $30 shipping is $6, etc, and then for International total under $20 shipping is $7, total under $30 shipping is $9, etc. You get the point. Or do I have to type in every country code into the Zone Rates?

You could use the Table Shipping Module for International ...

I have a post running around that is everything except the US built into a zone ... but you will need to do a search for that one ...

Then, use the Zones module for the US ...

Only one or the other Shipping module will show based on the zone that the person is in ...

I've actually got a system currently in place with that configuration. It's alright, I just wish it didn't say "Zone Rates: No Shipping Available to the Selected Country" underneath "Table Rates: Best Way: $6.95". I think that might be confusing to users to see a shipping price, then directly under it "no shipping available to this country."

If I could find a way to eliminate that I'd be set. Also can't figure out how to change "Best Way" to something a little more informative...

The Shipping Modules are made up of language files ...

    /includes/languages/english/modules/shipping

You would copy to your overrides directory
    /includes/languages/english/modules/shipping/your_template_dir

the ones you want to customize ...
