Why cant the checkout process be as simple as cyber cart? Customer enters shipping address, email address, CC info and clicks send. Done...

There should be no reason to create an account on a site to buy a product.

It is better to let zen-cart create an automatic password.
Customer can determine if it wants to use it to see an orderstatus.
In most cases the customer wants to receive his product ASAP and not check orderstatusses etc.

wow, just read through this thread.

I can't figure out the bitterness - it was stated that some online shops have different needs/requirements/preferences/clientele than other online shops - which makes the bitterness even more confusing.

Anyway, my shop is all downloads - I don't need to have shipping info, phone number, etc.

My way around getting all the info was to simply edit the form checker javascript, remove the parts that make certain information mandatory (like address, phone number, ...), and edit my create account template to remove those sections.

Now, customers only need to enter an email address (to receive download links) and a password (to actually get the downloads). Simple.

Just my 2 pennies.

I solve this problem mysels. I created "Noname" account with id=xx. In page, where customer should post comments, I check is he registered and loged on user. If no, I draw form with name and phone fields. They are required. Information from this fields attached to the comments. Unfortunately, I didn't craete module - only modify source code.
