Thanks for the nice post Shirley!

Harker Heights is very different from where I lived my whole life (California). My husband has family here (we're non-military), that's why we moved here. It's been two years. I don't mind it much now. Plus, its so much cheaper. I can actually buy a house out here!

Talk about ironic. I live in So Cal and have for past 20 years. but was born and raised in West Texas.......so we just switched! And yes, nice homes are very affordable in Texas............

    thanks again,
    Shirley

red flag Re: Checkout without account

'The fewer the clicks, the better'. Unfortunately 'buy now' functionality is needed and zen-cart falls short and loses in this category. Hundreds of thousands of sales are said to be lost each day in the United States alone due to the lack of patience or frustration from the user. What can one do when America is losing its battle against A.D.D.? Implement buy now to the next release of Zen-Cart!!!!!!!

Please tell me this is already in the works.

    - 'auto-register' the user at checkout time - this will surely take care of the marketting needs of having an 'account' and tracking customer loyalty.
    - require the email address in order to checkout and advise the user this is how they'll be updated of the progress of their order.
    - email the user their automatically generated password. When they return to the site for another purchase (we would still keep the existing 'login to your account' link) we force them to change their password.
    - force users to log into their accounts on following purchases (the email address would already exist).

Guys, I'm a big fan of Zen-Cart. Lets keep up the good work and get moving with this enhancement, it'll turn Zen-Cart into the best shopping cart tool, period!

red flag Re: Checkout without account

Please note Zen-Cart developers ... this needs to be a switch!

Both arguments are very, very valid. Both options are needed to make zen-cart meet the demands of all e-commerce web sites.

I strongly disable with how zombie here handled this situation. All the efforts of the Zen-Cart team has been shown no respect what-so-ever. You grabbed the code, and ##############ized it!

Developers, we need a formal solution.

Excuse me! You disagree with how I handled this situation?!

First of all, I would like to say that I have ALWAYS shown respect for the zen team. I have also donated to them. Have you? I doubt it.

I worked with someone on this who knows Zen Cart well and who has contributed many mods. Have you contributed any?

Also, since when is changing a "true" to a "false" considered ##############IZING the code? Have you even looked at the changes that were made? Most of them were in the templates darling.

You said "All the efforts of the Zen-Cart team has been shown no respect". The Zen team has made no effort to help us with this situation. Now that is not to say that they are not working on some sort of solution right now that we are not aware of. And that also does not mean that I don't appreciate what they do for us. I have thanked them until I was blue in the face. I understand that they feel they have other more important things to deal with at the moment and that an optional account is supposed to be in a future release of zen.

All of us are using Zen Cart to run a business. We are in our business to make a profit. We cannot make a profit when customers leave because they have to sign up for an account. The fact that we still stay with Zen Cart even though it does not provide us with this important feature proves how devoted we are to zen and its developers.

You don't agree with what I did here? I don't give a crap. I spent a lot of time and energy preparing it for distribution to help other zenners. I go out of my way all the time to help people with their zen problems. Yet you show me no respect. People like you make people like me want to stop helping others. But since I have received a ton of thanks from many people, I will continue to help any way I can and I will try to forget that morons like you exist.

"Developers, we need a formal solution." - Duh.... we've been asking for a formal solution for a long time now. Where were you?

You strongly disable? Do you mean....disagree??

Most mods here were created from a good idea that would help the shop keeper to put more options into their site. Others then improve on it to make it work with their site. Sometimes a good idea is just that...but the creator of the idea may not know how to properly write the code to make it work. So someone else picks up the ball and works with it.

I am concerned that you are assuming...(yes, you know what they say about assume.....if the shoe fits :) that craftzombie just took the code and took credit for it. This is an incorrect assumption on your part.

I think it would be to your advantage to stop trying to accuse folks of stuff without confirming the facts first.

On a personal note....of all the people on the zencart forum, craftzombie has been one of a handful of people that has assisted me on any and all questions that I have had as i learn this new system So consider this me....standing in front of these amazing people who create these mods....telling you to bring it on.

I am really ashamed that folks like you feel it necessary to attack others. I have found that it is those who attack, that really have no clue as to the facts of the situation. Next time, check your facts first please. Craftzombie has done nothing wrong to be the victim of your wrath....however misplaced it may be.

If you are not here to help, then just hush.

    oh, and another thing.......

"Please tell me this is already in the works.

    - force users to log into their accounts on following purchases (the email address would already exist)."

Why don't you create a mod to do what you want it to do on your site? Or do you not know how to do it? I would bet it is the latter.

and for the record....i will not FORCE my users to do anything.....my job is to make their shopping experience as easy and effortless as possible. Maybe that is the part you are not understanding.

You do what you want with your shop.......and let me run mine the way i see is best for my customers. thank you.

Who the heck to you think you are isrzencartus and where the heck to you think zen cart came from. It came for OsCommerce and who do you think changed it?

Craftzombie had made a code change used for her shop and her shop only. I asked if I could use the code and she was happy to pass it along to me and then made it available for others.

Zen cart is the best of the best. I would not think of using any other cart to sell on the internet. There was just that check out password that not was not wanted or need for what I sell. password and user log in is a requirement for some sites but not all.

There has been found a work around and I am happy to say that my sales have increased because of it.

Just because you call Name, Address, Phone Number, Shipping and Billing info an account does not make it an account. It is just the information that is used to sell and ship.

I have the choice of deleting any customer information anytime I choose after the order is completed.

    Thanks again Craftzombie.

Have a Drink Re: Checkout without account

Man!!! I really struck a cord, no?

I love the initiative you took to make the change ... the communication between you and the zen-cart team in previous posts is what I wanted to touch on.

I do apologize. Note that I found this post because I needed the very same functionality you implemented. Isn't that a complement? I think most of my post was supported what you did in many ways. Maybe not directly. Don't you agree the functionality needs to be a bit more formalized and included in future versions?

After basically supporting your initiatize 100% I wanted to touch on the fact that I read all the posts in this thread from many many months ago and thought at times at times your communication was a little abrasive toward the zen-cart team.

I'm sorry if I came across the wrong way. English is my third language and sometimes I word things a bit too strong.

I do think zen-cart is the best of the best!

Ps. I'm working on the enhancement.

    Thanks for the clarification.

Zen Cart is an open source shopping cart solution.

The codes are free for anyone to use and modify.

The creators of Zen Cart took code from the original shopping cart (osCommerce) added all the bells and whistles and what most of the population need in a shopping cart.

Zen Cart would loose most of it's users if they did not have customer log in, log out so don't blame them for not intergrading the no log in, no log out for the few of us that want it in that form.

I have nothing but respect for the Zen Cart Team and you will not find another shopping cart software company, free of fee that has a team of developers as dedicated as the one we are using.

Is it up to Zen Cart to make this mod available for everyone? No, it is not and that is why this forum is so valuable to all of us.
