Shipping by Zip Code

Is it possible to set up shipping charges such that various ways of shipping can be charged based on 3-digit zip from/destination codes? Ideally what I'd like to do is offer shipping from the store location (zip: 123) and set up a charge for, say, $3.00, for ground 3-5 days, to zip 456, $4.00 for ground 3-5 days, to zip 567, $4.50 for ground 3-5 days to zip 569...etc.

My thought is that since I already have these shipping charges available to me electronically, I should be able to populate a shipping table somewhere in zencart to load zone/charge information at a 3-digit zip level.....

Any suggestions? Or is what I want to do too complicated for the shipping module in zencart? Thanks in advance -

It's possible to do ... but I don't recall seeing anyone sharing a module doing that.

I have converted an osC based shipping module to Zen-Cart that is a flat rate based on Zip codes. I've just installed it on a customer site to provide free shipping to a small array of zip codes and it works perfectly. Let me know if anyone needs it and I'll supply a link. It's based on the zone module currently available.

did any solutions and "how-to's" surfaced when it comes to the setup of local zones? seems no one is willing to share it. I have already opened a post some while ago about local delivery and COD when we deliver.
I have installed a zen cart module for local deliveries that seems to work in 1.3.7. and even offers the possibility to show a map of the delivery area and zones. But i still failed in sizeing down the State-Zone (also used for tax) to a "City" or "Area" or "ZIP" Zone i would then use for the payment and shipping module. so far, i have the shipping module set to the state zone and - basicly - hope that the customers realise that i might NOT ship and refuse COD if they order from outside the Area.

I just literally three minutes ago finished working on a new shipping module that is a variation of zone shipping. Not sure if it will work for you and I had a long week getting this to work - basically it is based on zip codes. It currently allows for three zones, but you could increase that in the code if more were needed.

You can select weight/price/units as your shipping method - you would set up a zone with your seleted 5 digit zip codes then set your shipping rates. There is a caveat in that you have to create a really high maximum to get it to work on the high end correctly. To explain - My customer wanted free shipping "over" $50.00 purchase for a select set of zip codes and a $5.00 flat charge for under 50.00 -
So my settings were 50:0.00, 5000:0.00 - Without setting a max define it would error out and not provide a rate for the set of zipcodes for purchases over $50.00.

It's still being tested - so be sure to back up all before you install - but for the moment you can get it here. Once I'm feel confident it is working completely, I'll put it in the contributions area - http://www.randbhosting.net/zen-cart/zipship.zip
