    Default Cleaning up ne install.

Hi. Does anybody have any definitive instructions on how to clean up a new install (without example data)? I'm having a go and will post somewhere when I can. But I can't be the first to try this. I want to get rid of everything that is not needed. eg, the music product types. Files, folder, database tables, config entries etc. This is not exactly limited to product types but I'm guessing they're the bulk of the problem.

Why does the 'no eaxmple data' install come with example product types etc anyway?

    Cheers, D.

"clean up" is a very "relative" term.

What exactly are you trying to do and why? Perhaps that will help someone provide some guidance.

Sorry, I thought it would be clear.

Whan you install zencart with the 'no example data' I would expect to get an absolutly clean database and set of zencart files to work with. But that's not what you get.

I don't sell Music. I have no need of music type or recording artists. Neither have I any need for Document General or product Free Shipping. As a quick example my notes currently tell me I have to get rid of the following whan I do a new install.

    Code:
Remove 'Product - Music', 'Document - General', 'Document - Product' and 'Product - Free Shipping' from the
    product_types table in the database.

Remove all associated entries in the product_type_layout table. configuaration_ids 19-80, 86-103 and 112-143. (Check this!)

Remove associated entries form get_terms_to_filter table. (All entries I think.)

Remove associated entries form product_types_to_category table. (All entries I think.)

    Remove the database tables media_clips, media_manager, media_to_products, media_types and music_genre
    Remove the database tables product_music_extra
    Remove the database tables record_artists, record_artists_info, record_company, record_company_info
But that's just the start. There are a lot of files that need zapping. And there are coonfig options remaining about the place I have not dicovered how to remove yet.

If I am to hand over a zencart setup for a client to manage they will be calling me up asking what they are all there for.

    Hope that makes sense. D.

If you load a clean Zen Cart from the current version, Full Zen Cart v1.3.0.2 at the moment ...

You will have a clean Zen Cart with the ability to use the 5 Product Types ...

You really don't want to be trashing out the core product types ...

If you do not need some of them, don't use them ...

You will need at least the main one ... Products General ...

As the code is geared for all 5, leave them ... they are not hurting anything nor are they going to change anything, other than cause grief, if you start wiping out the base ...

Well, yes. I will need the Product - General type!

Are you saying that I cannot remove all the other types without messing with core code? I thought these types were extentions - just like as if I had created new types for myself.

I'm still not keen to leave them in if they can be removed safely I don't think my clients will be to keen to have them hanging around 'just because'.

I get your point though. D.

Instead of ripping the code apart- perhaps the the Admin Profiles contrib will do what you want with limiting access.
