Okay, so almost every single error resolved now. I have found all of the broken tags, and the template is now Valid XHTML 1.0. (woo)
The only problem that I haven't been able to resolve is the break in the template in IE, the way the footer doesn't touch the left column, but instead a white line appears. I think it may be a padding issue, but I looked and couldn't see anything, hopefully it isn't another silly mistake!
