    Default ZenCart vs. OScommerce

Can anyone tell me the advantages of using Zencart over OScommerce?
    Thanks.

You are smack dab in the middle of it!

Just take a look at the difference between the two forums. Number of answers, speed of answers, correctness of answers........

Take a look at release dates and bug fixes.

Those two things will tell you more than any words can say.

    Thanks for your reply.
So, you seem to be saying the support for ZenCart is superior to OScommerce.
    Is that right?
Any other feature or attribute comments about ZenCart vs. OScommerce?

    Thanks again.

I can't compare the two head to head as I left OSC on the date you see below my avatar.

From time to time, I have gone to the OSC site to see if there was much activity or look for a tool that I might port to ZenCart. I find little change that I can see in the last two years.

After you've been in this forum for awhile, you'll see the "Wow! I don't believe I got an answer so fast."

I once worked on a contract that used to LARGE copiers. Both were made by the same manufacturer but one had another major company's logo on it. Naturally, they were maintained by two different maintenance teams even though the "engines" were the same. (sound familiar)

One of the maintenance teams was slow to respond and generally shrugged their shoulders while saying, "we'll get back to you."

The other dispatched someone the same day and, barring the need for a non-carried part, had it fixed that day.

When it came time to recommend a source for replacements, it didn't take long to figure out who to recommend.

In my opinion ZenCart is superior in that the devs and the members of this forum have agreed to grow with respect and respond with assistance.

the OSC is the same code it was 3 years ago,
Zen Cart is ever changing and improving,
    Attributes are stock in Zen
as are templates and over rides,
and if you can believe it zen cart actually requires an admin to login

Idea or Suggestion Re: ZenCart vs. OScommerce

I moved to Zen after finishing loading my first OSC site. I was really proud of it and it was a big decision to move as I knew I'd have to start from scratch and I was a total beginner.

I needed to sell virtual products - downloads. I also needed (because lots of my customers are older ladies who don't trust the internet with their credit cards) to accept cheque payments - OSC allowed the user to download before I'd got payment - not very useful.

It was the best move I could have made - the extra features of Zen made configuring soooo much easier - I can change my side boxes without knowing how to program - I can change my HTML page content regularly, add extra pages and all from the admin interface - I didn't need to go through the file system or understand complicated programming.

My Zen site is loads better than my OSC site - mostly because of the excellent support but also because the program makes sense - and has been designed to aid the user (not just experienced programmers).

    Go with Zen every time!
