    [Newbie] HELP! Problem With Downloadable PDF

    Hey Folks,

    Am hoping that someone might be able to help me here.

    I've set up my first virtual product and am testing it out -- everything seems to work fine until payment is made and you don't get any kind of link to the product download.

    I followed the steps in this post:

    The product is set to Virtual in the Product Entry, I get the Downloadable PDF Zip File attribute (checked by default, as it's the only one) and am able to purchase it with no shipping required, but when I get to the thank-you screen, there's no link or anything.

    Doubt this is correct, eh?

    Would love any help or support -- we're trying to get this product up on our site ASAP today.

    When I go into the attributes controller for the product, I se the following (which should be correct, yes?):

    Option Name: Downloadable
    Option Value: Download Zipped PDF File
    Filename: file.zip

    The Downloads directory in my Zen Cart install is set to 775.

    Any ideas?

    You will either need to Zip the PDF or set your site to allow PDF to download rather than launch ...

    Speak to your hosting site for how best to configure this ...

    Hmm... Not quite clear what you're referring to here.

    I did ZIP the PDF as was mentioned in the post I linked to.

    I was actually expecting that Zen Cart would include a link (at least) after payment was accepted to the download file.

    My issue isn't that the file doesn't download, it's that there's absolutely NO MENTION of the downloadable file, no links to it, no prompt for it, no anything, once the person completes payment.

    Again, that wasn't what I was expecting.

    How is it supposed to work when someone pays for a downloadable file? What should happen once their payment is approved?

    Note: be sure you are running v1.3.0.2 ...

    The Downloads are related to the Orders Status ...

    The Orders Status is set by the Payment Module ...

    If the Orders Status is set to >= 2 (Processing) and <=4 (Updated) then the Download is immediately available to the customer ...

    Otherwise, if set to <= 1 (Pending) or >= 5 (anything you add new, unless you adjust the range) the Download is not available until you change the Orders Status in the Admin for the Order ...

    Ah, gotcha. That's probably the issue.

    I know that the current status is set to make all purchases pending, though I'm not sure if (on the admin side) my clients actually update this along the way. They're a small group and generally ship items right away.

    Is this order status information admin-only? That is, based on your order status do you as a customer receive any updates or information automatically? Am assuming it might be more for internal/administrative tracking, yes?

    If you go to the Admin ... Customers ... Orders ... and change the Orders Status ... you can add a comment to the order that the customer will see and send the comment to customer via email that the Orders Status has been updated ...

    If a download becomes out of date based on max days or download attempts and needs to be reset ... you can reset the whole order by setting to Updated ... then setting to what ever Orders Status you want ... or by using the icons next to the downloads to change their status individually ...
