Default Filter Product Listing for Current Top Level Category When Enabled

    Hi!

I really appreciate any help or advice anyone can offer on an issue I'm having with this setting. Under Admin>Configuration>Index Listing it is the last option "Filter Product Listing for Current Top Level Category When Enabled".

If I am understanding correctly if I turn this on it will filter so that when I go into a particular category only featured products, new products, etc from that category will be displayed. If I turn it off the featured products, new products, etc from all categories will be displayed?

Currently I am getting the same thing whether it is on or off. It's driving me nuts ;-(

The server is Apache/2.0.52 (Gentoo/Linux) running php 4.4.0 and MySQL 4.0.22 and I am running Zen Cart 1.2.6.

I currently have the following settings under Index Listing-

Show New Products on Main Page 1
Show Featured Products on Main Page 2 Info
Show Special Products on Main Page 3 Info
Show Upcoming Products on Main Page 4 Info
Show New Products on Main Page - Category with SubCategories 0 Info
Show Featured Products on Main Page - Category with SubCategories 1 Info

The rest are all 0 (and so I'm assuming should not be filtered) other than columns per row which is set to 3 in all cases.

I have 2 products set as featured products and you can see that in action on these pages -

    Many. many thanks in advance!

    Hi,

I will second this, it looks like either a bug or we have misunderstood the setting - could somebody please clarify.

Also, is it possible to remove the addition to the "Featured Products" heading when browsing categorys. e.g. from the index page the featured heading is "Featured Products" and when entering the Televisions category it becomes "Featured Products - Televisions". Can this be turned off?

    Thanks in advance,
    Carey

The filter would occur if the Category you are listing on the product_listing has:

1 come from the Categories box and contains mixed manufactuers you will have a manufacturers dropdown to filter

2 comes from the manufacturers sidebox and contains products from mixed categories and you will then have a categories dropdown to filter the products

3 comes from the manufacturers info sidebox on the product _info page and takes you to the manufacturers products and there are mixed categories you will have a categories dropdown to filter from

Note: the other filter that exists can best be seen if you have the demo products or try this with your own products ...

If you go to the DVD ... Action ... category when the filter setting is OFF, you will see products from mixed categories as in from any category ... in the centerboxes

If you go to the DVD ... Action ... category when the filter setting is ON, you will see products from mixed categories but from the Top level category (cPath) as in DVD and subcats below it ...

When set to ON, this keeps the display of products more "alike" or in the same area of your shop ...

    Hi Linda,

    Thanks for your response.

That is how I expect it to work, although it doesn't :S

I currently have on product set as featured, with the televisions top level category. When I browse any other top level category, the featured products do not show at all regardless of the filter setting.

Could it be because there are only featured products from one category?

    Thanks,
    Carey

Do you have an URL for this that we could peek at?

What are your settings in the Index Listing for the Centerboxes? Make sure nothing you want showing is set to 0 as 0 is OFF and any other number is the sort order within that group of centerboxes ...
