    Default help! problems with installation on GoDaddy hosting

    Hello All,

    I've been reading up on the forum on installation and have run into a wall. On the section that requires database

    :: Zen Cart™ Setup - Database Setup

    Next we need to know some information on your database settings. Please carefully enter each setting in the appropriate box and press Save Database Settings to continue.'
    ATTENTION: Problems Found
    ERROR - Cannot proceed until problems are resolved.

    * Connection to Database failed
    Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/tmp/mysql.sock' (2)

    The database has been created on the host server... I spoke to the hosting CSR and he said that they don't allow remote installation on shared hosting .. Where do I go from here? I've been itching to get this set up for my online store....

    Please any help would be most appreciated...

    This isn't really "remote installation". Once the database is created on your server, all Zen Cart does is create tables, insert/remove records, etc... normal activity stuff.

    Who is your host?
    What did you enter for the Database Server setting? Typically this would be "localhost" ... but some hosting companies have the database server on a separate computer and thus an alternate address is needed. Sometimes it's an IP address like 123.55.22.134 etc.

    GoDaddy Installation - Creating Database

    1. Open your hosting panel in GoDaddy

    2. in the Databases section, click on the MySQL link

    3. if you don't have a database created for your Zen Cart install yet, create one.
    - it'll ask you for a database/username and password for accessing the database

    4. Now you'll see your new database listed. NOTE THE DATABASE NAME, the USER NAME (same as database name), and PASSWORD, because you'll need that for Zen Cart installation.

    5. to the right of your database name, you'll see several links:
    - "Status" = Set up
    - "Manager" -- this contains a button to access phpMyAdmin for raw data access
    - "Actions" -- three buttons, with the middle one being "Edit" (picture of a pencil and paper). CLICK ON THIS PENCIL ICON

    6. WRITE DOWN the information shown:
    - Database Name (same as what you used in #3, #4 above)
    - Host Name (also known as Database Server) ... looks LIKE this: mysql135.secureserver.net (might be a different number, etc
    - User Name (same as what you used in #3, #4 above)
    - Password (not shown ... but same as what you entered earlier)

    7. Go back to your Zen Cart install and enter the information from #6 on the Database Setup screen

    I've followed those instructions to a T... and it still doesn't work.

    Okay, the error message shows that it's trying to log into the database server using a Database Username of "marinefloraosc", and attempt to access a database named "zencart".

    But, on GoDaddy, your username and database name are typically the same.

    On the Zen Cart Database Setup screen, you need to fill in:

    Database Host -- The GoDaddy "Host Name" mentioned earlier
    Database Username -- The Username you entered
    Database Password -- The Password you entered
    Database Name -- The username you entered (since username and database name are the same)
