Canada Post problems for international shipping

I am having a problem with the pricing for US and International Shipping.

The store is located in Canada and shipping prices are reasonable for domestic shipping. When I test shipping to the US or Internationally, the prices are outrageous. They also don't seem to be altered by adding additional items to be shipped. For shipping of a single item, the problem seems to correct itself when "ship in own box" is selected. Of course, this would not be a workable solution.

I am not sure what to do. I am using Zen Cart Version 1.3.0.1. I am not sure that upgrading will fix this problem.

Figured out the problem.

It is necessary to set several box sizes in the Canada Post "Sell Online" account:

http://206.191.4.228/servlet/LogonServlet?Language=0

Without this, it picks a large default box and puts the tiny item in there, which is expensive when shipping internationally (US or other). The box size doesn't seem to matter for domestic shipping it seems.
