Sort Orders and Attributes

Hello - I've got a newbie question for you all :)

When updating/adding products, I noticed there is a field for sort order with a space for a number - I have a pre-made site and all products are set to zero. What does this mean?

sort_order defines the sorting of products in categories
If you make sort order of one product,say A as 1 and all are rest all are kept at 0, A will appear in the last

If all are set to 0, it means products would be displayed in the alphabetical order(which happends by default)
