    OK, I just figured something out. All folders and files located BEFORE the TEMPLATES directory will be used by ZenCart to also affect the layout. The custom folder and template I created will not be the only thing affecting the look of the site.
    Not actually correct, if I understand what you meant, If you have created the template "Some_Name" and also edited the template_info.php file for it in it's folder, this will show up in the admin > tools > template selection area where you set this to be your active template..then Zen looks to any "Some_Name" folder for your edited files(only edited files should reside in these folders) and if there is no file there Zen looks to the default location for the file.

    Once the template is set, other files, over the ones that you have edited, should have no effect.

    If you have created a template or used one from the DL section you should not have a stylesheet_new.css in your "Some_Name" /css folder

    I created a template folder called kitesite_template, and edited the template_info.php to reflect that the name of the template was kitesite_template, and it's located in
    /includes/templates/kitesite_template/ plus these folders: common, CSS, images, sideboxes (not sure why yet) and templates.

    I've edited the header and now I can see my top logo. Now, I want to insert a side bad on the left, as here: http://www.canadiankitecompany.com and so I understand I can use the left-rightcolumn items for that? or is there a simpler way to create a left menu box?

    Thanks for all your help, I feel I'm getting out of the fog a bit more each time!

    It would be great if I could retain the store work already done though...

    load your site and then view the source.

    Right towards the top of this code you will fin reference similar to this:
    Code:
    <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="includes/templates/Custom/css/stylesheet.css" />
    <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="includes/templates/Custom/css/stylesheet_css_buttons.css" />
    <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" media="print" href="includes/templates/Custom/css/print_stylesheet.css" />
    This indicates in this instance the path to the css files, your shouuld be /includes/templates/kitesite_template/...

    yes, you're right:
    <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="includes/templates/kitesite_template/css/stylesheet.css" />

    I also found that I can include the top logo using the header.php, but I didn't find how to do it using CSS yet.

    Working, working...

    well, editing the templates has limitations, it is IMPOSSIBLE to insret a left column banner even as a background is you want to use the space also to put a menu.

    My client has played around and entered product, yes I can't find how to edit the font color he used (can't find them in the CSS document).

    There is a picture that's not showing up on the left in the categorie box. Instead we see the ALT comment, but no picture. Don't even know what it is. I View Source but the picture...

    I'm going round and round and round and round and round and round and round and round and round ...

    No idea how to make the header background BLACK and the rest of the page WHITE...

    etc.

    anyone has a minute to take a look and let me know what I'm doing wrong?

    Find the wrapper for the header, separate if necessary and add a color to it.

    This might be due to styling in the product description area using the html area editor. Go to the product and edit and see if this is styled there.

    As to the other comments I tend to not agree but am not clear what you did or are attempting to do from your description.

    Thanks, the color vhanges worked, I was also able to assign a different font color in both areas.

    This is the best I can come up with so far. Still got that black line/space/margin/border/etc that cuts the landscape, but after that we should be good to go...

    thanks for your help, everyone. I wasn't having fun anymore...
