    Default BOGOF wiki suggestion

    Hi,

First off i'd like to say that Zen Cart is an awesome product, so much easier to use and edit than OScommerce. But right now i have run into my first real problem.

i've installed the zen cart BOGOF addition that was posted in the wiki for the observer class. Right not everything is working on the shopping cart page, but as soon as i continue to the checkout process, my totals are reverted back to what they were before the discount.

a link to the wiki suggestion: http://www.zen-cart.com/wiki/index.p..._World_Example

I was wondering if anyone knew a fix for this or if it has to do with sessions not saving properly, as i am currently testing it on a local server?

The example posted is a work in progress. You'll notice in the comments the following:
NB: There are still some weaknesses here...

First although the adjust total is correctly shown on the shopping cart page and sidebox, the line total is not adjusted.

Secondly this will probably produce a confusing output at checkout.

Third: Have not tested for tax compliance yet ( @TODO )
In fact, the information does not carry forward to checkout at all in this example. Definitely more work to be done to complete this example...

Yeah, i figured when it said that, it meant that the value was maintained yet it just didn't display correctly.

I tried adding notifiers for the other checkout pages but that didn't seem to work, i guess i'm gunna have to develop it myself.

    Thnx for the Response.

Just to expand on what DrByte said. The examples in the wiki, were just that. Examples to show how the observer class may be used.

As far as the bogoff example goes, it really needs to be married with an order total class (which in of itselff could be the bogoff class) that would be used to ajust order totals at the checkout stage.

I will try and throw something together if I have time over the weekend,

Just wanted to give this thread a bump. I've got a customer that is interested in various variations on bogof (e.g. Buy 2, get one free. Buy 4 get 2 free). I'd be interested to see how this functionality could be represented visually. I'm thinking something ajaxy; like, someone orders the magic number, the additional free product/s fade in. Oh boy, I just realized how ridiculous all this web 2.0 stuff sounds.

I'm enjoying ZenCart very much; but have to ask, if this is such an oft-requested item, how come it's not part of the software?

Of course, I'm a noob and appreciate the fact that the functionality of the site is limited to my own skills, or lack thereof. If anyone's solved this problem I'd very much appreciate some help.

    Thank you!

The reason is that it's incredibly painful to specify and everyone would want it to behave differently. If you look at Better Together, it has two for one functionality built into it but you have to specify your pairings in software; there's no GUI interface to do this. Try it out.
