    Default Gift certificate ammount?

Is there a way for the customer to manually add the ammount of the gift certificate they would like to purchase?

My store items range in price from $288, $355, $1300, etc. and often people like to send gift certificates for half of the ammount of a product, or something of the like and totals may come to a wonky price like $167.34

In my other Zen shop, people select the ammount from a pul down menu and that works fine because the ammounts are in denominations of $10, $25, $50, $100 and it works for that store, but the pull down menu won't work for this other store I'm working on.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks!

You could make a Product that is a Gift Certificate where the Add to Cart would be the amount ...

With some customization, you could also make this display as something different than Add to Cart to make it more meaningful ...

One methods is to use a different product type such as Document Product and customize that ...

The other is to customize the Product General to display differently when the products_id = XXX and XXX is the Gift Certificate Product you want then to be able to enter their own amount ...

Note: you would need to change the Minimum Units to allow for the change Configuration ... Stock ... settings for the:
    Product Quantity Decimals
Allow how many decimals on Quantity

    0= off

    0
    1
    2
    3

That would work if the person wanted to buy the gift certificate for the total ammount of the product, but a lot of people only want to pay for part or most of an item because it is so expensive. Sometimes, they will want to pay $50, sometimes $564.32, sometimes $3255.54

See the dilemma? I'm so stumped.

    There is no dilema ...

    Make the Product 1.00

    Set the Units to 0.01

Set the Model to GIFTcustom or GIFTwhatever

Set the decimals to 2 in Stock

    Now order 169.94

Hmm, I just put all of that information in and all the product page shows under the description is :

    . Model: GIFTcustom

and the product shows up as $1 under the product name.

I must be missing something. Do I have to change something other than the product page in the admin? I am somewhat un-technical, so please bear with me.

Do you have an URL to this Product that we can look at?

Huh, I guess my reply didn't come through earlier.

Anyhoo, I futzed with it a bit and I now have a box that the person enters their ammount in - COOL!

The problem now is that 1) The price of the Gift Certtificate is showing up as $1 under the Gift Certificate title and I don't know how to get rid of that on just that one product and 2) A yellow warning box comes up in the shopping cart saying:

    ################################################################################
! Warning Please update your order ...
Product Name: Gift Certificate ... Quantity Units errors -
You ordered a total of: 543.54
    ################################################################################_

I'm pretty sure that is because the shopping cart doesn't do 0.00 so I need to figure out how to set the decimal there.

This is exactly what I was looking for - thanks so much!!!!

I would show you the site, but it's under password protection and my admin guy *cough*husband*cough* has been a little crusty lately and I don't want to push my luck by asking for more technical assistance ;)

You need to adjust the Product units to 0.01

Adjust the Configuration ... Stock ... Product Quantity Decimals to 2

Then on the products _info page you need to adjust the display of price so it doesn't show the $1.00 when the products_id = your GV Product ...

I don't know if you have a minimum or not, but this will allow for pennies ...

Awesome!! It's showing up in the right ammount in the cart, but that dratted yellow warning is still there.

Is there a way of removing the product price in just the one product, for instance, removing the $1 that appears for the Gift Certificate, but leaving the price showing for the other products? I have a feeling it's an all or nothing sort of deal, is that right?

This is looking fantastic - thank you so much for your assistance!!

If you do not edit the Product Units to read:

    0.01

You cannot add pennies on the Product ... and will get errors ...

If you do not edit the Stock Setting for Decimal Places on the Qty to 2 ... you cannot add pennies ...
