    Default default attribute values

is there a way to set a default value to an attribute?

say every XXXL T-shirt is an extra $2 and every XXXXL T-shirt is an extra $3 for a product where the L, XL, XXL sizes are all $10.

so that if i have 30 Tshirts, and i have the improved attribute controller (which i really likes), all i have to do is add L, XL, XXL, XXXL, XXXXL sizes and due to the default value of the attribute the values in the attribute drop-down are as follows:

    Large
    XL
    XXL
    XXXL (+$2)
    XXXXL (+$3)

without having to go back and enter the + $2 and +$3 for each Tshirt..

i've searched and unfortunately, i'm thinking this is not the way that things are handled (i do not see a default value for the attributes in the database and the products_attributes table is the only place the attribute values are stored). here's me wishful thinking that i just happened to miss something???

If you have a category with just t-shirts contained you can perform a global copy of the attributes.

If not, one work around is to create a temp category, move all t-shirts to this area then do a global copy of the attributes and move them back to the original category.

'priciate the heads up on the global attribute functions... but for some reason it's not working for me - maybe i'm just not getting it here, but i'm using the "Copy Option Name/Value to Products with existing Option Name..."

and that obviously works if the options are already set up for each Tshirt, (ie. i've got the L, XL, XXL, XXXL, XXXXL already added for all 30 shirts). is there a way to insert all 5 sizes for all 30 shirts and give them the appropriate dollar values with the global attribute tool? or even do a two step process 1) copy the sizes over and 2) copy the values?

    thanks in advance

That is not the same thing as copy the Attributes of 1 Product to a Category of Products ...

You are just copying the settings ... not the values of those settings ...

    Try this:

In admin > catalog > Attributes Controller > select a category and then a product that has the attributes you want to copy...and display...

Now if you scroll down a bit it will have the product description

    ID# 3 - Your_Product_ Name

and below that the attributes that are linked to this product...

Back to the top part..on the right you can select "Copy To Product" or "Copy To Category" (This is why I suggested that you create a temp category in other post as you can copy these attributes to all the items in a complete category...)

Select either to product or to category.....PLEASE BACKUP the DB before doing this as a precaution.

Zen will copy the current selected product attributes to what you have selected
